So, are any of you entering the everchosen painting competition?

https://www.warhammer-community.com/2019/05/26/everchosen-the-global-warhammer-painting-competition/

What miniature will you enter?

I don't think I have any chance to win at my local store as the quality is pretty high there. But I will enter any way to be a part of the community.

Im thinking about doing a tzeentch sorcerer conversion from a stormcast. But it has some stormcast symbols on it I need to file away. I don't have very much modelling skills so im afraid to ruin the miniature!

Anybody have anything to share about your entry if you plan to enter?

I am, although I don't exactly have a lot of time to complete my entry.

I am planning on using the Mistweaver Saih model as the base for an Eldar Exodite conversion as I feel it'll get some points for being creative and let's face it, space wood elves are cool.

Chances are pretty decent at my local, there are some good painters but I'm hopeful unless some great painters crawl out of the woodwork.

Are you going to stick to the standard size base of go for something larger to take advantage of the space given for competition?

I'm tempted to go for a larger base size to make things a little bit more scenic.

The regular base is enough to do what I wanted. I want to have a burning candle and a skull to form a small cultist ritual feeling.

Im thinking about doing some with the verticality. Thinking about adding this bird
Spoiler:

On top of the sorcerer.

What parts will you use except the misteaver as a base?

I've ordered some eternal guard, shadow warriors and drakespawn knights to give me a selection of bits to work from. I do need to make it suitably Eldar though, so I'll be digging into my bits box for a some extra things to add on.

I'm going to enter some of my previous Golden Demon entries. I've been lazy on the painting front since Warhammer Fest.

No. I'll bring Nagash in, but GW decided to announce a worldwide painting contest with not a lot of time to do up a proper entry of the caliber I'd be happy with.

So I'm not wasting my time/effort to half-ass something.

Nothing in the rules to say so! Haha. To be fair in happy with having no pressure to finish anything at the moment so I'm not going to rush into competition mode again. I have got a finished model that needs a base so if I can finish that I might enter it instead.

The Everchosen category is models/entries on base size of 60mm max.

Nagash is way bigger and only qualifies for the Open category (and I assume per understanding, not eligible for Everchosen category).

Maybe they give you a diploma or something

Primed the pieces of Mistweaver. I was hoping to use Eternal Guard heads but their hair flows the wrong way in relation to the rest of the model so went with the female archers in the Shadow Warriors set. Very open to colour scheme suggestions, I was thinking of blue as the main colour but it doesn't overly fit a jungle theme.

Well I didn't finish my entry in time so I entered one of my recent Farseers into the main category and a fire prism into the open category. Finished in 2nd in the main category and finished 3rd in the open category.

A little bit disappointed as I felt I should have done better but ah well, I got two sheets of card!

Me too! When I entered I was the only entry at Bristol. Thought I might win by default but alas. Its my own fault for not touching up abaddon before entering. Also with it being a public vote, rather than judges, I think it was less about painting ability and more about what the voters like.. So if they're all fantasy guys a 40k entry is less likely to win, regardless of whether it's painted better or not.

I agree with public voting. It's super hit and miss. It makes me feel like not a lot of people know what goes into painting a miniature.

I managed 3rd in open and a win by 2 votes in Everchosen... And I will admit I brought 3 friends with me. (I did a bunch of freehanding on the cloak and my model was shown in such a way that it was very difficult to see its rear.) It really makes me wonder what the giant worldwide database is going to look like. Will the public vote drop the perceived overall quality to a more mediocre level?

The Everchosen semi-finals voting is live until Aug 31 >> https://www.warhammer-community.com/everchosen-painting-competition/

It's sorta awkward, you just point your browser there and then rate photo after inconsistent photo from 1-5. I'm assuming they eventually run out, but I just rated a lot of entries with no repeats.

Admittedly, it was a weird experience, since you have to make your own scale up. I feel like a dick for giving out so many 1-3, but I had to maintain a low end so my high end would be more meaningful, you know? Even then, I didn't give out a single 5, which I guess means I should have moved my scale up a notch

Few other notes:
- Holy hell, so many Guillimans and Ababadabadooms (that I stuffed into 2-3, except for the Abby with a saurus head that I gleefully rewarded with a 4)
- Troggoths are really hard for me to rate, since I favor conversions and that kit seems pretty anti-modification
- I must be a sucker for that Typhus sculpt, I think I gave that more 4s than any other model; Orruk Megabosses in close second tho
- In counterpoint, Ahrimans stand out as really covering the scale from mediocre to superb
- Man, I love me some Noise Marine guitarists
- Man, I do not care about that one Sister sculpt

Thinking about it, virtually all of my favorite entrants were shot against black backgrounds and featured OSL or strong chiaroscuro elements. Go fig.

Worst. Way. To. Vote. Ever.
Why was it done this way?

It was an awful.experience for the 20 minutes I tried to rate stuff. I felt I was docking more marks for poor presentation than anything. But yeah after 20 minutes of that random image stuff I gave up.

I was thinking it was going to actually be a gallery. I'd like to know who thought of presenting it that way? Fire them.

It's hard to get started because you don't roughly know where to put the limits (esp the upper limits) until you've seen a few. That said I can appreciate that with entries from practically every single store it likely was never going to be practical for them all to have the same presentation quality.

Though I would have preferred a less random display and I'm confused why their system couldn't just show each image once. In theory someone could win if the luck of the random just showers them with more exposure than others.

then again I think its likely a casual voting system for what is at heart a more casual competition that was more focused on getting people painting.

The voting system is terrible and it feels like if the random number generator picks your image more than others that can affect you poorly or well depending on the quality of your work.

The competition doesn't really feel like a good one and won't reward people like a GD would.

It feels as though it's done this way because the public votes will make little difference in the final winners.
And the voting system is more of a consolation to the community to make it feel as though we were involved.
I don't know. It's a bizarre way to do it simply because of the random image generation.
