are you naming the "mechwarriors" or the knight engines, that's a good place to start. I mean ideally you'll wanna do both, so you'll have the Imperial Knight Gallent Woad Raider piloted by Sir William Wallace.
just for a random example.
one thing to consider though is what's the CULTURE of your knights knightworld.
you can really spice things up if you give them a differant culture. I mean generic westren europe is the default and you can do a lot with that, but you can also reaaally shake thingsd up if you go with a differant culture, perhaps your knight world is aligned along feudal japanese with the High King being called the Shogun, and each Baron a Damiyo. and the individual knights refered to as Samurai. then perhaps the knights are named similarily to the japanese aircraft carriers (a lot of them translate to stuff like flying dragon etc) but wait there's one more oddity! despite being japanese in culture the world was settled by russian settlers! so they all have Russian surnames and Japanese first names.
creating such characters as Hayata Ivanov Dayimo of the Alaiya Islands and Samurai-pilot of the Knight Ryujo.
it's a big galaxy, have fun!

You can pick a theme for your knight house and choose names that fit it.
For example, the knights of house Draconis all have names that are about dragons or fire, like "Oath of Flame", "Pyrefang" or "Embersword".

I flick through my itunes library and name them after songs or albums that sound cool. Right now I have Sound and Fury, Pale Specter, Furious Sea, and Eternal Reflection.

I use Transformer names and color scheme for mine. With the new Chaos version upcomming, I guess I'll try to convince my Chaos friend to name his after Decepticons.

For my Knights and Titanicus units I've taken inspiration from old railway locomotives, particularly British diesels from the 50's-60's. My Titanicus Knights are all called "(blank) of Visegrad", so we have names like "Triumph of Visegrad" and "Fury of Visegrad", or "Triumph" and "Fury" for short. Look for diesels from Class 40-60 on Wikipedia if you're interested.

I'm a big stealer-from-ancient-languages-er - I usually just type a description of an element of the fluff into google translate, and then run with that a little bit. It usually is convincingly 40k-sounding, and gives your dudes a bit of flair that helps them interact with your fluff a little more, and is a great talking point for
The Moorendar 3rd draw their name from (forgot the exact origins, soz) an indo-european word for soil - fitting for muddy trench boys, my Genestealer cult live on Aeris Mea - lit. copper mine in latin, whilst a few character names like Caelinus again are stolen from online generic 'ancient name generators', same for the few Black Templars I've named (except for lascannon Joe, who is named because he has a lascannon, but also because he was, in my disastrous first game, far FAR more useless than any other battle brother that day - in game anecdotes about performance, again, a good source of insporation).
I've also named stuff after names for things with ancient origins - again, history is a great source of stuff, and only requires a cheeky wikipedia raid - a la, my Carpathian Tin Ghosts. Battles, campaigns, regions, important figures and even policies aren't half bad at all.
Another way I name stuff that is pretty tried and tested is by straight up lifting pop culture names I like - my Ordo Malleus Inquisitor, Casval Flay is named after Casval Rem Deikun, the antagonist for most of the Universal Century timeline of Gundam, and Mr. Flay, a servant from Peake's Gormenghast. GW did this in the past pretty flagrantly, but while it can be a bit goofy, it also can yeild some very nice results.
As others here have pointed out, music isn't an awful source, either. I've not done any in an age, but my sisters of battle have a bit of a punk theme, with my Celestine named Agatha after a queercore band from the early 2010s, and my sister superior named after the frontwoman of the Screaming Females. That said, it's worth taking your time and being choosy! Esp if you're going to personalize a kit as big and expensive as a knight!

Oh, they still do it. Early on in Guy Haley's Plague War novel, there is mention of three worlds recently liberated from Chaos by Guilliman. Each of the three is named after an archaic name for Yorkshire, where Guy Haley lives. And in one of the Ciaphas Cain novels, none other than vet James Herriot makes a guest appearance.

Mine have a jungle/forest camo and are piloted by female Catachans. Therefore I chose to give them snake names:
- Boa (Crusader)
- Viper (Warden)
- Cobra (Errant)
Paladin is in the process of being assembled and will be named Mamba.

Will I later add the new big IK and the smaller runts to my collection? Nope, because they are just fugly.

It's worth remembering that planets are explored and colonzied by people and thus names will vary based off all kinds of things. you're always going to find that one planet "who was first mapped by a man who had a passion for obscure old science fiction" with such wonderful terrain features as "Mount Kirk" "the Skywalker river" etc

Bad puns.
In a relatively recent RPG game we had:
Sir Ficient (a rich noble)
Sir Spicious (totally not secretly a traitor)
Sir Rendar (secretly a coward)
Sir Jhical (commander of the hospitallers)
Sir Rhogate (The baron's deputy)

My Admech & Knights are from Metalica, so naturally they're named as such:
Metalica Scrutineer Assesment Maniple
Admech - Metal Up Your Ass
Scrutineer Principalis Hetfeldus(Black) - Kill 'em All
Skitarii Vanguard
Sicaran Infiltrators
Techpriest Domus Larsul(Orange) - Whiplash
Skitarii Rangers
Techpriest Maniplus - KirHam'et The Lightning Lord
Enginseer - B'irt'on Klif of the Metal Militia
Electropriests - Disciples of Edy'ssn
Electropriests - Disciples of N'kkola
Onager(Black) - Cunning Stunts
----------------------------------
Questoris Mechanicus House Ktulu
Maniple Principalis Call of Ktulu
Preceptor - For Whom The Bell Tolls piloted by Duchess Elektra(Female Rogue Trader model)
Cerastus - Ride the Lightning (Greyfax)
Castellan(Blue) - Call of Ktulu piloted by Duke Mustaine (Blackstone fortress RT)
Castellan () - Master of Puppets
Warglaive(Yellow) - Dont Tread On Me
Warglaive(Black & orange) - Fade to Black
Helverin(Blue) - Damage Inc.
Helverin(light grey) - ...And Justice For All
Helverin(All Black) - The Unforgiven
Helverin(Orange) - Harvester of Sorrow
Its definitely a work in progress but pretty much all laid out. Each knight will have a dismounted pilot miniature with their own name & backstory.

For me I like to think about the knight's home world and its culture and draw from that. Also if you're using a preexisting knight house with some named titans already then that can help you get a feel for their style. So for example I've been messing around with House Orhlacc lately and historically they come from a very dark planet with lots of big bad flora and fauna and the people of the planet are a very solemn people. So if I wanted to name a knight for them I might do something related to the animals, like Shadowed Beast, or something very sad sounding like Eve of Mourning.
