I've recently ordered some metal models, and and I want to know if my chaos black will be as good a basecoat as on my plastic models. Will I need to prime the metal, or not? If so, will acrylic primer work? Thanks for the help.

Metal requires a metal primer.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

I have never used a metal primer and have spent the last year and a half painting pretty much only metal models. I have had no issues with either Citadel (not actually a primer) nor Army Painter bar the occasional bit of chipping from rough handling (or dropping onto a concrete floor...). One occasion I had an issue was painting a model on the same day as I primed it and there was some wearing, I now leave at least 24hrs and have had not a single issue. Have to varnish after painting though.

I typically use Krylon primer for metal models, but haven't had a problem with GW's primers over metal models as long as I'm careful until the model is painted and sealed.

No it does not.
I've been using the same spray paint for years on both plastic, resin and metal models and it all works fine. You do not need any "special" spray for metal models. You do not need to pin metal models all the time. You do not need special glue for metal models beyond superglue. The sheer amount of lies and/or inaccurate statements made about metal models from people that only grew up in the GW bubble without them is baffling.

Chaos black is acrylic no?
I have used GW sprays for years since I started, 96 or so (I may not have been spraying then due to age issues) but the spray has never chipped off unless you are careless/ rough with the minis.
