In the new Chaos Space Marines kit, the GW site blurb says:

This kit builds 10 Chaos Space Marines, with your choice of weapons. The set is absolutely packed with optional extras, giving you the choice of arming every member of the squad with close-combat weapons and pistols or ranged wargear. You’ll be able to add your choice of plasma gun, flamer, meltagun, heavy bolter and missile launcher. Optional components let you build up to two Aspiring Champions, giving you the freedom to build the set as a single squad of 10 or two squads of 5. A Chaos icon, interchangeable components and optional grenades offer you even more choice, ensuring no two units need look alike. The set is even designed to be compatible with the Havocs, allowing you to mix and match heavy weapons for even more choice.

Now that to me means I can build every CSM in the box with chainsword and pistol, maybe the sergeant has an axe, or two sergeants have axe and power maul. I'm sat here with 8 CSM built, and the only other close combat weapon is the power maul for the 2nd sergeant. Am I missing a frame, or does "You’ll be able to add your choice of plasma gun, flamer, meltagun, heavy bolter and missile launcher" mean you'll be able to build 8 CC marines and 2 special weapons marines?

Someone else asked something similar the other day.

I think the answer is that you get enough weapons to equip 7 or 8 normal CSM and must build at least 1 heavy or special in addition to the champion.

Thanks for the answer, looks like I'm going to raid my bits box then.

It's baffling, but not entirely without a lot of precident.

I suspect it comes from the foolish notion that players will play the GW 'intended way', that is with some variety and thematic way, rather than building armies based on a WAAC
, super optimised, heavily biased way.
