I'm running terror assault, so I only get one heavy support. I'm looking for something versatile, able to lend fire support and anti-flyer defence, and am trying to decide between a deredeo and a sicaran arcus strike tank. I'm probably gonig to get a cortus and a mortis dreadnought as well.

What kind of flyers does your local group often play, and how often do they play them (every game, every other game, etc)

I don't really know; I'm gearing up for an escalation league.

I use Deredeo with Aiolos and Lascannons sometimes. I think its a little overcosted but it can be quite useful. If i could choose i would take Telemon practically all the time.

Whats good in this combination is that Lascannons being S10 can hurt Spartans (with -1 str upgrade). Also they can instakill Custodes or Gal Vorbaks.

Aiolos is amazing because it can shoot over terrain without LOS. Yeah i know that barrage weapons can do it too but you can slowly over the course of the game target costly 3+ marines and even Landspeeders.

Overall if you keep Deredeo out of sight from what can hurt him badly (shatter shells for example) then its going to kill at least something and even make up for its cost. Unlike Custodes Telemon which can tank much more proficient and has more shots (but costs 50% more).

With everyone starting new projects or with existing projects on the go?
In any case -
Arcus would be more jack-of-all-trades but it has a big target and a bigger reputation so it's going to take a lot of fire from ground targets first.
Deredeo is just a better Mortis dreadnought. If you're already grabbing a Mortis for the future then you probably don't need this (or thye Arcus' anti-air options) unless people are playing multiple flyers

I like my Deredeo with autocannons a good bit for anti-air, but a Mortis-Contemptor with twin-lascannons is probably just as good a shout, to be honest.

Can't go with with a Sicaran Arcus, I reckon.

Arcus will prove to be a more versatile choice. The deredeo is great but there are better ways to get AA. You can run a mortis contemptor out of your elites slot and that can do some real damage to planes. The Arcus is versatile because you have access to different ammunition types which you might alter from game to game.

Do you play 30k? It'd be a lot cooler if you did.

Arcus is very versatile, but you pay for it. Might be a better choice if you know who you are going to be playing and in general what they have in their list, then you can take the best Asrcus loadout for the game.

The Deredeo is a fantastic Dread if you build around it. My Cool Ranch Dorito (Autocannons and Pavase) forms a solid fire support anchor for Cataphract Termies (3++ anyone?). My Spicy Nacho Hot Dorito (Lascannon battery) makes just about all vehicles on the table hide in cover. I'm not a big fan of the Plasma version (Salsa Verde Dorito). Just never seems to earn it's points back or do much work for me. Seems like every time I've used it, I've scored at least one Get's Hot! hit on myself. Whatever version I take, I always take the missile launcher as well- being able to split fire with it and hitting vehicles on the side armor is very nice.

Alternates to the Arcus: Whirlwind Scorpius, Rapier Weapons Battery, Legion Artillery Tank Squad (Basilisk, Medusa, Whirlwind)

Alternates to the Deredeo: Levithan Dread, Contemptor Dreads

All have their pros and cons. Just gotta look at them and decide how you are going to play with them in your list. For me, the Deredeo wins by the Rule of Cool. Any dread with big nasty guns is awesome. While I like the Arcus chasis (Sicarian tanks are my fav!), the launcher just kills the model. Levithians look like a Mr. Potatohead. Whirlwinds are in 40K, along with the Artillery Tanks (and they are IG to boot! Yuck!). Rapier Weapons Battery will instantly put you into the "That Guy" category even if you don't run Rad missiles because they are so universally reviled. Contemptor dreads are OK, but sometimes, the weapons look funny on them. I like to play 30K because you get to take a bunch of stuff that you can't take in 40K... for the most part. Stupid Relic Vehicles!

Other point to the arcus, you can easily just whip up different turrets and run it as any sicaran.

I don't even have an Arcus, but I have a Sicaran Battle Tank and a Scorpius turret if I need to proxy it.
