Hello all, I am in need of some general advice I play chaos daemons and want to buy Daemon princes but don't like the current range they desperately need an update. Any ideas on what I can buy or even an easy convert to make a good one? I know creature caster is the way but anything in the age of Sigmar range that could work?

Any advice would be appreciated

Basically any medium sized model can work as a daemon prince, thats the fun thing about daemon princes, anyone/thing can be one if they impress the gods enough.

One of my old favourite bits of fluff from Fantasy was about a Bretonnian knight who fought and killed two bloodthirsters. Khorne was so impressed he elevated him to daemonhood for it, despite the knight not even really trying (or wanting) to do it.

These two from GW Lotr range look like really strong contenders. I looked at those the other day and thought they'd make awesome demon princes if I ever make a chaos army.
There's also the balrog but that's greater demon sized afaik.

BUT I have no idea how big they and also they are resin cast...
Anyone know how big they are?

They'd fit as Princes for sure. But for Gulavar I'd probably search for the metal Version on ebay, as Finecastminis are still the worst quality on the wargaming market. Unfortunately the dweller never came in metal.

Awesome thanks for the advice. I guess I only want to use age of Sigmar mostly cause I want to work with plastic not finecast or resin.

I do agree virtually anything can use as a Daemon prince size pending of course. Morghast I look amazing and you get two In a box so double value although a bit more expensive then a normal prince

A converted Khorgorath would great make for a great DP. Honestly, your best bet may be to go to Google Images and type in 'daemon prince conversion,' 'daemon prince khorne,' and/or 'daemon prince slaanesh.' You should get a bunch of inspiration there, I know I sure have.

Syll’Eske is an easy Slaanesh Prince. Just remove the herald from his back and run with it. Amazing sculpt.

Ogroid Thaumaturge from Tzeentch line works really well, and some people have been using some Undead models as TKSons Princes (I don’t know the model name, but check the Undead model range).

For Khorne, a Korgoroth with a swapped head from a Juggernaut could be pretty good.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

It's a little big, but I've actually got a Chaos Manticore from the old Fantasy range that I'm figuring on using as a Daemon Prince. He's not as big as a Greater Daemon or one of the Daemon Primarchs, but he is somewhat bigger than the actual Daemon Prince model.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 1/27/19, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~11200 | Space Marines (Blood Ravens and others): ~1300 | Space Wolves: ~3400
Inquisition: ~300 | Officio Assassinorum: ~500 | Imperial Knights: ~800 | Talons of the Emperor: ~500
Tau Empire: ~6200 | Chaos Space Marines (various legions): ~8100 | Death Guard: ~2800 | Chaos Daemons (all types): ~2100
Check out my P&M Blogs: ZergSmasher's P&M Blog | Imperial Knights blog | Total models painted in 2018: 134 | Total models painted in 2019: 27 | Current main painting project: Space Wolves Wulfen

Honestly if you want to go big with a DP go for it. Your opponent won't care about something easier to hit. As long as it's not so small it can be super easily hidden behind normal terrain I don't think anyone would mind. Remember Magnus and Mortarion are daemon princes and they're huge.

For Slaanesh if you can find one of the old greater demon models then its ideally sized to be a new demon prince. I'm planning on converting mine with some wings to give it a visible flight upgrade, but otherwise you don't need to do anything to it and its very slaanesh!

I'm not sure why people are recommending the Ogroid. Yes, it has the DP look, but I personally think that it's too small to be a realistic (within the fluff of Warhammer) prince.

There’s the khorgoroth (as already said). And if you aren’t limited to GW then reaper bones has a lot of cheap figures that can be mashed together.

Daemon princes can be any size they want to be. One of the things I love about daemon princes is that they can look like whatever they want. Or whatever the gods want.

The Ogroid is the same size as the standard DP mini. He's a big boi.

Anyway OP, depends how you want to go. I've made many DPs in my time. My current Nurgle ones are made from the new Abaddon, Scibor Rotten Lord (these are great bases for large expanded power/termi armour), a GF9 Zuggtmoy mini (might be hard to find as she was limited), Orcus from Reaper (Reaper is a goldmine for DPs) and a massive one to represent Foulspawn made from Mashaaf, also from Reaper.

Years ago I made a pair of Slaaneshi ones out of the two C'tan models, one being made to emulate Michael Anderson's excellent redo of Azazel made from the Deceiver. I've got a Khornate one made from the Dragon Ogre Shaggoth and there is a Tzeentchian one just to the left of me that needs painting made from the Reaper (again) avatar of knowledge, which is just called "Giraffe" on their site now for some reason. He's lounging on a disc and a good big size once you raise him up. If you ever want a DP with a giraffe head wearing spectacles then you know where to go.

There are tons of great DP options from the Fantasy/AoS line. My personal favs are Beastmen Bullgors and the Undead Varghiests
Spoiler:

The Varghiests/Crypt Horrors/Flayers in particular are great because you get 3 in the box and they come with arms and wings. If you are even a tiny bit proficient with green stuff, you can assemble them with arms, maybe holding weapons, and greenstuff/pin the Wings on the backs

The Bullgors have a great look that can easily be used for Khorne (big muscular bulls), Slaanesh (bovine) or even Tzeentch (just blues and pink paints)

I used the three Cyberdemons from the first Doom boardgame as Daemon Princes. They have those nice jet packs on their backs which justifies the Wings option in the codex.

Warmachine Legion warbeasts may provide a basis or some conversion parts. Azrael and Zuriel are almost usable right out of the box, and cannibalizing the starter-box Neraph (usually available cheap on Ebay) gets you some plastic wings in about the right scale.

To be fair, there have been incarnations in which "Wings" was not the name of the upgrade. I remember "Daemonic Flight" being the name a few editions ago. Therefore actually requiring "wings" to be modeled seem unnecessary.
You can easily just use jump-pack looking things, or even nothing. Daemons are supernatural, so they could just fly by the power of the Warp.
This is my DP and I always equip him with FLY with just those back-vents the kit comes with:

Nice Daemon Prince. But why Black Legion?

Hmm, but what about the Hive Tyrant? He can´t fly without wings and so every bug player has to go the extra mile and steal them from a fantasy dragon. My guess is that Nid players won´t be pleased, if they face a demon without wings or jet pack that wants to float around the board..

WYSIWYG isn't a rule. A walking tyrant can fly if you buy the option in points.

It might not be an actual black and white, set in stone rule any more, but it is still advisable to abide by it when possible. Using an on foot HT with wings in the example you gave is a dictionary definition of a dick move. your opponent may not have been aware of that fact and deployed their forces assuming it had less movement and the inability to fly thus giving you an unfair advantage.

Now, WRT specifically Daemons, yes it does say in the codex that they can fly by other means such as levitation, teleportation etc. but if you're going to give it the ability to fly without wings make it look like it has fly in that case- have it hovering, make it look like Bette Midler () but putting that DP down, when everyone and their mum knows that those are not a jump pack and simply enlarged versions of the CSM backpack vents might get you an odd look.

It's only a dick move if you guys are not talking to each other about your army before deployment, which everyone should be doing. The nid player has to be purposefully trying to deceive you. At which point the dick move is not how he chose to assemble his model, but the fact that he is actually a dick and you can assume more dishonest moves like this throughout the game.
