Folks,

Just looking for some recommendations for some decent brushes. I have only ever used GW ones over the years and I'm quite sure there are some better brushes out there.

Any recommendations welcome and I'll check them out!

My workhorses:

Winsor & Newton 7 Series
Raphael 8404
Handover Kolinsky Sables

I use almost exclusively size 2's and 3's for the majority of my brushwork, and switch to 00 or 0's for fine detail work (eyes, linework, etc.).

Rosemary & Co series 33... and a big multi-pack of fairly cheap synthetic brushes. I use the synthetics for laying down base coats, washes and metallics. Save your good brushes for when they'll make a difference and they last a lot longer.

Also, big makeup brushes for drybrushing. Work a treat.

Windsor & Newton series 7 are the best brushes I've used. Your brush is by far your most important tool as a painter, so it's worth paying a couple of pounds more to get the best, in my opinion.

Artis Opus are amazing as well.

Rosemary & Co series 33 are good too, but I've found my experience of the range to be hit and miss. I've had a few that have split into a forked brush almost immediately, and have refused to go back, and others that have never had a point - all the bristles are the same length and no amount of twisting will result in a point that lasts more than a few seconds. On the other hand I've had R&Co ones that are great.

Da Vinci Maestro Series 10 are quite lovely, their size 2 is slightly bigger than W&N series 7 size 1 and it's my work horse brush.
