The rules for missile attacks state that a target must be visible to the attacker. The rules for melee attacks do not require the target be visible. So if my units are on one side of a solid wall, but within of an enemy unit on the other side of the wall, can that model make attacks against the enemy unit?

To play devil's advocate my opponent and other folks in the store said, "You should play as to what is intuitive" (to imply that things generally cannot swing through walls.) Perhaps I struggle with this mode of thinking, because then my mind goes. "I'm playing with ghosts, surely they can swing through walls?" or some other logic that could make it thematically acceptable.

Are there any other terrain rules which I am missing which covers this? Is this just a matter of playing strictly RAW vs. RAI?

You can swing through solid walls, yes.

I dunno; I wouldn't allow swinging through walls. I might allow swinging over a wall if its like a giant swinging against something it could realistically hit.

Even for ghosts, their weapons are physical; so while a ghost might be able to pass through the wall, its armor and weapons likely not.

The rules for the nighthaunt for example indicate "ethereal" and "flying". Ethereal meaning they are actually part of the mortal / physical realm; just so little is left of their being that they are hard to damage, not completely passable. Flying, because why not ghosts fly.

In AoS does a unit have to have visibility to charge another unit? I can't remember if that's a thing.

If it is, then a unit couldn't be close enough to swing at another behind a solid wall as they couldn't get in range to do so.

If not, then as silly as it is, they could.

LoS is not needed to charge.
