So, GW is offering up the opportunity to own three plastic models:
1x Primaris Captain in Phobos Armour (supplied with a Citadel 40mm Round Base)
1x Primaris Librarian in Phobos Armour (supplied with a Citadel 40mm Round Base)
1x Invictor Tactical Warsuit (supplied with a Citadel 90mm Round Base)
for the bargain rate of 100Euro.

Simple poll -
hot or not?
Hot? You will buy one, maybe two sets, buy at least one of the models in the set, or wish that you collected space marines because if you did then you would. Let us know why you love these dudes!
Not? 100Euros is too much for anything that can't answer the phone for you, the weenie-war-walker is too Avatar for my tastes, I already have those characters and monopose is for the birds... Let us know how you really feel!

This is a not hot vote but I hit hot accidentally thinking it was about vanguard in general.
No this is a terrible "deal" because it's not a deal at all I don't know why they bother. I'm not trying to be negative but it really irritates me when they put everything in a bundle for the same cost as everything separate.
Get a dread, libby, and captain for the price of a captain, libby, and dread!

Literally the only reason to get the bundle is if you were getting all 3, it saves you from having to purchase them all seperately. It's literally just saving the consumer the push of 3 more buttons.

The Captain sucks (I'll probably get one to butcher up for a base though) but the Librarian is fantastic and the Warsuit I'd wager as pretty cool. I know I plan to eventually get it and modify it to my liking at least.

I don't need to buy the characters, as I was able to get them for a pittance when people locally started up CSM.
But yeah. I'd have gotten at least two of each, barring the Invictor(I'm getting one to start with--I want to play with the kit and get a cool pose going).
Most importantly though, the Raven Guard are now confirmed to field Phobos en masse! REJOICE!

Yeah the half assed stealth is ...odd
A full camoline coated armour and cloak and the same for the dreadnought as well would have been great IMO

I voted hot but assumed that was for the phobos release, that particular grouping is, unexciting, I've got the captain and libby from shadowspear already so all I want is the warsuit.
for those who don't have the libby yet it's a BEAUTIFUL model

This is just one of those stupid "One-Click-Bundles", a reminiscence to GWs Dark Age of Kirby. So the bundle itself is "not".
The miniatures themselves? Loyalist scum, who cares?!
(I don't like those autocannons on the walker, they look like stubbers and autocannons should be reserved for the cool guys (CSM). Shouldn't loyalists use assault cannons?)

The whole vanguard shtick does nothing for me, and the warsuit grates on my feeling about 40K mythos. I really prefer the living tomb horror of dreadnoughts and the “only in death does duty end” twist of the knife it puts on a marine. The warsuit feels more like something that belongs in an Eldar army or better yet, Tau.
Yes, that means I don’t agree with the depiction of Dreadnights and Centurions.

The fact that it's a "bundle" with no cost savings at all would make it a Not, except that anyone who bought Shadowspear doesn't need the bundle anyway so at least they don't feel cheated.

Slayer-Fan123 wrote:Boy you're gonna hate it when you find out about Scouts then!
I don't like Scouts either. But they at least don't pretend to be real Astartes. They're just trainees. And their focus on stealth actually helps to highlight the non-stealthy nature of 'proper' Space Marines by contrast. It says something about the way most Marine Chapters wage war that the stealthy spec-ops stuff is left to the youngsters who aren't quite full members of the Chapter yet. And it lets those Chapters that do things differently (e.g. the Space Wolves using their newbies as assault troops and their hoary old veteran loners as Scouts) feel more distinct.
Mr Morden wrote:Not a Raven Guard player then........or other similar Chapters
No. I'm fine with them existing, just as I'm fine with Phobos armour existing. But I won't play them. They don't appeal to me in any way.
BrianDavion wrote:it does amuse me that after over 20 years of the raven Guard And Death Watch being a thing, people are suddenly deciding they dislike spec ops space marines
Oh FFS, there's nothing "suddenly" about it. My preferences in Space Marine fluff haven't changed since I started with them 25-ish years ago.
I don't object to stealthy special-ops themed Space Marines existing. I just don't personally want to play them, and I certainly don't want them to become the 'default'. I prefer the "Knights Templar in Space" version of Marines, which has been the default since a few months into the Rogue Trader era (when they retconned the original "drugged-up ex-criminals" concept). Back then, even the Space Wolves were space-warrior-monks.
I do play Deathwatch, BTW. I don't know why you see them as "stealthy spec-ops". They're just veterans who emphasise anti-Xenos warfare. Very different feel to Raven Guard or the new Phobos units. At least to me.
It really shouldn't be necessary to say this, but this is the Internet where people always put the most extreme possible interpretation on other people's words, so let me clarify. When I say "X is not what I want", that doesn't mean I think X should not exist, or that other people are wrong for liking it. When I say "the whole 'stealthy special-ops' thing is not what I want from Marines", that means exactly what it says. I, as in this person typing this, do not personally want to play Marines that are "stealthy special-ops" guys. It does not mean that I think Marines should never be allowed to be "stealthy special-ops" guys.

I don't know why anyone would buy directly from Games Workshop these days unless you live someplace that makes 3rd-party purchases even more expensive than GW — if you want an actual deal you can get all three on ebay for $93 instead of the $130 they're pitching . . .
Personally I think the Phobos and Vanguard models are awesome. Some of them need a few bit replacements or edits with a scalpel to look 'right', like the Captain's head or the Suppressor's Autocannons — but it's all simple stuff. The new multi-part infiltrator kit in particular looks like it has some great posing bits in it. I can understand why people dislike the new tacticool aesthetic they're going for — especially the generic sci-fi Invictor Warsuit — but I love it.
Can't wait to see creative Ork players looting the Warsuit, it's got a lot of conversion potential, hah.

I'm going to have to say "not"... but only because I already own them from Shadowspear. If I didn't already own them, I'd definitely buy them.
Also, I really like the Spec-Ops Tacticool Space Marines. I'm not a fan of Knights Templar Space Marines, in part because I play a faction that is strictly better at fulfilling the premise of crusading holy pure warriors than the Space Marines [and wouldn't really chose to play two such factions], and because I think that the spec-ops-tacticool over-the-top aesthetic fits way better with the rest of the Space Marine themes and appearances.

Guardsmen, hear me! Cadia may lie in ruin, but her proud people do not! For each brother and sister who gave their lives to Him as martyrs, we will reap a vengeance fiftyfold! Cadia may be no more, but will never be forgotten; our foes shall tremble in fear at the name, for their doom shall come from the barrels of Cadian guns, fired by Cadian hands! Forward, for vengeance and retribution, in His name and the names of our fallen comrades! |
