Hey all,

I was feeling braggadocious so I tried my newbie chops on a little challenge project. The challenge is to photo your flag painted on a grain of rice, and then sign a grain of rice and photo it on your flag. Here is my entry:

If i could make one of my very tiny synesthetic brushes i often buy last more thena couple of days then i would participate in this very good idea you have come up with.

I think you'll find most of the world don't keep a flag just lying close at hand. Don't even know where I'd go to find my nearest flag.

@Stormatious Thanks kindly. Mine was done using a couple of cheapo, dollar-store brushes that have lasted me for months.

Perhaps hence the title of the competition? Hope to see some participants!

Having your national flag close at hand seems to be a particularly American phenomenon - you guys seem to have them everywhere. Around the rest of the world it's quite possible for people to consider themselves very patriotic and at the same time, not even considered going out and buying a flag. The flag itself just doesn't have the same sort of significance to people. I honestly couldn't tell you the last time I saw a Union Flag in person.

Yeah i remember when i visited the states seeing flags hanging outside almost every house down most streets in the states i was in. Nothing like that in my country, flags are like almost a rarity it seems.

Not an intended offense against anyone in the world who does not own a flag. I was only given mine upon retirement from armed service. Served with some fine Australian officers! They have nice service-issue rifles. Our college also had some kind of exchange with the Sandhurst academy. Impressive place!

I double-checked and the fine stripe work was done with my Privateer Press fine brush. I did use a dollar store cheapo for the blue field, though.

But some grains are bigger the others, so i think we should put the rice next to a measuring tape aswell in the pictures. Or tell us the length and width of the grain in your picture.

Good idea. The competition should just be a flag painted on rice and a signature on rice, both shot with a scale reference, preferably a ruler. Thanks for the interest!

PS - Just picked up an Army Painter: Insane Detail brush so I'll be re-doing mine. Get ready to see all 50 stars!

PPS - Got a mag-glass-lite at about 20x? Thinking of doing a green-stuff sculpt instead of grain of rice!
