i am currently working on a cheap (for those who know me know that is my take on these things^^) way of designing my own treads... the angled look i think i can cover pretty well...now i need a way to make sure i have texture with the treads/shoes...

i hope i can present pics during the weekend...cross fingers for me^^

Nice tank track vik , so you finally got round to scratch building the beauty! look forward to seeing its inception , are you opting for a turret, or more tardtional ww1 style.?

i think i will do both turrets and sponsons... as i am not really clinging to a specific tanksdesign but doing an amalgam of many^^ if i was a sketcher or a freehand painter i probably would be posting concepts but my connection from brain to hands is somewhat on the level of a 5 yearold child so i would ashame myself to show you my won sketches^^

the tracks are looking promising. I am curious about how it will end up looking when done your way.

i hope i can get a study/tryout pic of a short piece of treads done in a new fashion ... i think i am on to a thing here...(here that is on my desk^^)...

Anyway, the Char-1B hull I used for the Malcador as you can see here uses wheels for the lower sections as well as the bigger sprocket and idler at back and front. Just a plate with rails molded into it for the return to the ground.

I figured that this may help somewhat being a model of a between wars design philosophy that incorporated concepts from the MK series of WWI tanks into itself.

yep noticed the sprockets and the wheels...if in fact i do open treads then this will be the fashion... tho i dont know how to make the smaller wheels from...

so now its time of delivery...

as promised a new take on my attempt to make scratchbuilt treads from styrofoam and some small tubing...

here goes:





this is the treads with built in links from those small ironing pearls kids make small pictures and hangers out of...
i glued the bunck of materials together with PVA and then i cut small parts ... the cutting is somehow missshaped and i have to rethink how to do it better...

here the treads are on the tracksystem...:




as you can see the cuts have ripped the sjoes too much apart so it now looks as if in the next few miniutes they will fall completly apart...

what do you think...? be blunt and rocky and please helpful at the same time^^

Well, a strip of material like a plastic glued under them may avoid the ripping, but a definite step in the right directon!

I do see the ripping happening. Try the under "strip" and see if that helps.

I would also think about plastic card inderneath for support.
The drive wheels would be a bit more complicated.

PS when I say plasicard, the lids of margarine tubs cut into strips slightly narrower than the styrofoam would do it imho
You should be able to bend the card for the drive wheel part, a bit like curling ribbon if you see what I mean
