DB,
Upshot of my post: Drop Pods have been my biggest concern, an unbeaten army, for my Serpent Spam.
Short version: Although playing for 10 years, my overall Win/Loss record is pretty bad, through 5e to 6e. In 7e I have been playing 4 Serpent Spam to a winning record. At
BAO, I went 4/2 W/L. I lost to Grant/GTA (Mr. ITC #1 at the time, if not still) and the Renaissance Man (Chris Long).
Besides facing superior players like those guys, Drop Pods have been my hardest match up.
Longer version:

It's hard to "leave 'em stranded" when there are 7 to 9 Drop Pods fulla those Emprah lovin' fools all over the table. They'll get at least one crew in for an assault and it's a dead tank.
'Course, they will already have bagged one or two others with the Sternguard (or
HQ Cmd. Sqd) melta-spam. And they get First Blood. I foolishly castled once, and actually got trapped, unable to skim a full 12" to OverWatchCNC's superior tactics (he's a way better player than I am). I won't do it again. The other Drop Pod losses (two separate games) were to the guy who tied jy2 at
BAO.
Plus, you gotta bag the Drop Pods offa objectives. I think my MathHammer says two salvos to destroy one Drop Pod
With the 4 Scatter shots - Most hit, but no glance
4.5 shots (average) with the Shield - Most hit, but STR7 vs AV12 = 1 glance/pen
Second Salvo:
With Scatters - odds come up for a glance, factoring in both salvos
4.5 shots - fudging toward 2 glance/hits and finally 3 Hull Points
I think. Smarter Math-boyz can hammer out the odds.
