Just wondering how you all store your miniatures and books/equipment?

I have a 'Really Useful Box' atm (4 litre), although my Land Speeder doesn't fit in it and is sitting on top...

GW zigzag cases for weird infantry, pluck foam from AB or other company for vehicles and standard infantry. top notch protection from Battlefoam for fragile armies like Drukhari, admech; fairly cheap box storage from KR multicase for minimal accessorized boxy armies like tau, marines. plastic containers with leftover foam or air bubble shipping for knights, superheavies.

More recent armies (those built 2010+) are stored/transported in these: https://us.battlefoam.com/ammo-box-bag-empty/ , or their very similar predecessor.
I use a mix of custom/standard/& pluck foam.
These have built in pockets for rule books/codex/dce etc.

Armies built prior to 2010 are stored/transported in black cases very similar to what GW sold from the mid 90s - ?.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/GAMES-WORKSHOP-OFFICIAL-ARMY-CARRY-CASES-MULTI-LISTING/123479564959?hash=item1cbff4a29f:m:mdL87ogtdONzA4y-qHVTNLg
See the one that says Citadel? My GW ones are that size, black, & have the Imperial Eagle. Holds either 108 or 144 standard size infantry (I forget, all of my foams long been customized to deal with large models, odd shaped models etc) I have a few of these.
But most of the cases are a generic brand from a local plastics company, that holds 1 more tray of foam.

Each army has it's own set of dice/tape measures/templates/tokens etc that stay in the cases/bags. Because I HATE transferring these bits back & forth. That's how you get somewhere & go "Oh, I forgot my ____".

Likewise I have a dedicated messenger bag for each of the major games I play - D&D/PF, AoS, 40k, Flames of war atm - for books etc that don't fit in the army cases.

Large things like Titans, Knights FW pieces, etc all have their own dedicated cases of varying makes. Some of these pieces are displayed on the various shelves in my game room (aka "formerly the spare bedroom")

Storage at home:
I have two walls worth of custom book shelves/cabinets. The cabinets below hold all the army cases (+ terrain etc), the book shelves above hold all the books (D&D/various minis games/AoS/WH40k/etc - & interspersed throughout are sections displaying various large gaming pieces & assorted smaller models.) On the top shelf of each are more assorted large pieces.

WiP? There's usually about 3 - 5 projects on my work/gaming table. Makes it a tad inconvenient if I'm hosting

I have my finished models (of which there are depressingly few) in a display case, and try to use them as much as possible for games as paint is always nicer.

The rest of them, I'm ashamed to say, have been more or less poured into GW cardboard boxes. I've got hundreds of boys in a single box. I lack the space to put all my models into comfy storage!

For transport I have a plastic GW case (with accompanying backpack) which I fill up with my army each time. It's got foam, bubblewrap and the like for protecting the models.

I have a bunch of big blue Flexcon containers. They're conveniently sized to line up a bunch of tanks in.

I keep my Guardsmen in a art toolbox. They're not fragile. I keep my sisters in the little plastic trays they came in, sorted by unit, though that's going to have to change when we go to 32's.

I also have some ace hardware divider containers I put some stuff in.

Guardsmen, hear me! Cadia may lie in ruin, but her proud people do not! For each brother and sister who gave their lives to Him as martyrs, we will reap a vengeance fiftyfold! Cadia may be no more, but will never be forgotten; our foes shall tremble in fear at the name, for their doom shall come from the barrels of Cadian guns, fired by Cadian hands! Forward, for vengeance and retribution, in His name and the names of our fallen comrades!

Absolutely.

Here is an old pic with a bunch of my foam laid out:

Trays come in fractional heights. Either 1-2-3 thirds, or 1-2-3-4 quarters. You can get full width trays (some things like the storm raven require them) but for the most part you work with half width. So you can just mix and match foam to fill a KRU box, and do that for as many boxes as you need to fill your case.

While in an ideal world you have custom foam for all your models, I often just use my half high, half wide 4x rhino tray with assorted scraps of foam to hold most of my odd shaped stuff. It’s also good for when I need to take turrets off of tanks to fit them in shallower trays.

With KR, a tray is just a tray.
As long as you make it fit, mix in anything you want.
I have most of my Eldar in one double-height KR aluminium box. It is 4-5 trays deep, with differently sized trays in both halves. There is a full-width tray on the top. It has troops, big infantry, jetbikes, walkers, skimmers, etc all in the same box.
Flyers are different though, and have a box to themselves. If I am not using the fliers, I leave that box behind

When i travel with my nids (the most challenging army i have to transport) i travel with a big trolley.
Inside the trolley are stacked vertically 4 cardobard boxes, each with 2 tall trays inside. I have trays customized for all the models i have to bring, so when i make a list i just fill the 4 boxes with the trays for those models and i'm good.
The trays are the ones used for carrying instruments.

All in all I spent less than a KR case and bring a lot of stuff safely.

Cardboard, because I refuse to put more effort into storing my army than GW put into balancing it.

Edit: That's not actually true. I store my minis in cardboard because an all-plastic army lets me get away with it. My transport boxes are also cardboard with a minimum of padding, for the same reason.

Yeah, I have a warehouse trolley too for carrying my stuff. It's great, I got it at Harbor Freight for like 15 bucks.

KR multicase famcy aluminium finish for most of my painted infantry stuff.

I used a shoe box and some foam sent to me by a dakkanaut to make a storage/carry for tank and wraithlord all of which can fit snugly inside a big grey storage box (I think its like a 10L or bigger)

But as mentioned trays are trays. Pick n Pluck works great if you have non standard stuff although I'm a fan of bespoke trays.

Im always on a lookout for storage boxes that fit the tray dimensions snug. Can just pile them on top of each other.

Once get in my new house I'm getting a nice display cabinet for my finished projects. and all sorts of fancy storage drawers etc. There is something to be said for looking at a business/industrial supplies catalogue. Its candy land..

For the time being, I'm going for a decent sized shoe box and some flat layers of 10mm foam which I'm going to cut up to line the box and also to make appropriately sized dividers for my fairly small force.

Have looked into quite a few things though, including KR, Tabletop Tyrant, Felderherr. Battle Foam seems to be the best stuff, but a suitable storage solution isn't cheap.

When I look at taking on a new army, I price it up, and add 1/3 on top for storage.
A box for troops holds a lot of troops. But, a KR case for a IG Valkyrie holds one of those, and a handful of troops. A £45 model needs a £36 pound case.

That's about where i stopped looking for premade stuff and decided that it was worth my time to devise a better solution.

DIY is the cheapest option, if you have the skills, parts, time, etc. And will be exactly what you need.

But it’s very nice to just plop your figs down into bespoke trays and have everything just work out of the box.

I used to have to custom pack my stuff in scraps of foam and an old case. It worked, but was a PITA. Switching to KR was a godsend. Expensive? Yes, but not as bad as some of the other options (Battlefoam) Could I afford it? Also yes. Sure, I’d prefer to spend money on more minis, but for all the time and effort we spend on the little guys, an investment in a nice case is worth it IMHO.

Obviously, opinions and techniques vary. Every time this topic comes up we hear what everyone is doing, and there are a LOT of options. Just find the one that works best for you.

I use Really Useful Box 4 Litres to store most smaller models on my shelves. You can fit 3 end on end on some IKEA type shelves. There's a 9 litre one that can be used too for taller items and they stack on top of the 4 litre ones. I dont' use foam in those as they're just for storage and they don't move. They're just to keep the dust off really.

Also for transport I use Really Useful 21 litre boxes. They generally go under beds, and KR Multicase Foam, and especially (6 half sized) Feldherr foams fit in it really well. I'll take a couple of pictures when I get home. Feldherr can be a little expensive as you have to ship from Germany if you go direct. There is a small amount on Amazon if you're looking for just a single purchase, otherwise if you're willing to wait you can get them from ElementGames as they order them in at discount.

For smaller things... games like kill Team I used a half sized KR Multicase cardboard box, which I put into a photographers bag - that has pouches for dice, tapemeasure etc and an A4 place for books etc. It's kind of like my kit/bugout bag for games. I got mine from 7dayshop, but I did search for it can't find it anymore in stock... can be seen here https://www.amazon.co.uk/7dayshop-Canvas-Photographers-Messenger-Shoulder/dp/B00COGYBLM/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8

To be fair every army has different requirements that lead you to different cases in my case my tay fit in a single KR double and that case was much cheaper than the battlefoam option. My buddy runs necrons and the Doomsday ark makes KR very inefficient as they don't have a good storage method for Arks. I think he's looking at Battle foam or making his own
