With the free cities book I'm hoping to be able to start playing AoS for the first time. I used to play Fantasy Battles and, though most of my models are now deprecated, I'm hoping I'll be able to use them within this framework.
I have ~30 thunderers and no Irondrakes. Now that Thunderers don't exist would using these as Irondrakes work for most people (not tournament play, just curious on what you would think if I was playing you.) My thunderers are all wearing armour and carrying shields, so the better save makes sense compared to handgunners, also thet are Dwarves (obviously).
I have ~100 Dwarf Warriors. Should I use these as Longbeards?
My Ironbreakers are still Ironbreakers and my Characters and copters are fine.
Is there anything that I could use the Anvil as? I love my model.
As an OS Dwarf player, I have a pile of Artillery, Organ Guns, Cannons, Bolt and Grudge Throwers. What would be the best thing to use these as?
Thanks for any suggestions!

thunders as iron drakes should be fine.
Warriors I would indeed play as longbeards, seeing how the old lore longbeards where just older more experinced warriors.
Anvil itself not, but the models could be used as characters.
Organ guns can be used as a volley gun, stick a rocket in the barrel of the cannons and you've got the rocket batteries. The bolt throwers could be used as the stormcast bolt throwers. Grudge throwers are a bit harder

I'd keep hold of the artillery, I'd be shocked if in the future GW didn't expand the artillery options on offer. Indeed it was very odd that they took them away at all to begin with, but they did.

They did shaft the Ironbreakers though. Why they got rid of shield wall is beyond me - it was fluffy and it worked - but to then get rid of the ignore rend that ironbreakers used to have Ian a kick in the teeth. I would rather take old dispossessed then this new vanilla crap

Probably to both appease dwarf players, and also passive aggressively get you to bin your dwarfs for new models. No one likes getting kicked in the teeth because they liked the wrong models, but burn & churn is a booming business and business is good.

Guessing that the reason they did it is because there's easy access now to units that can potentially buff?
Also, Ironbreakers are a 3+ save now rather than 4+. That's where your shield rules went.

At this point I'd rather they just removed all the old Dwarf models. Better to cut the cord than parade the sad remains of the army through AoS.

As Kan mentioned, they removed ignoring rend -1 but gave the unit a 3+ save, which is a huge buff, and removed shield wall to compensate. The unit is way more durable on the charge now and can run without penalty. There's plenty of room for criticism, Ironbreakers isn't it. I would use the Anvil as, hear me out here, a hurricanum (without wizard). It buffs allies and strikes at enemies with non-spell magic attacks, in that respect at least it is similar. Also the buff it gives out is really good and you'll want it anyways. As for artillery; organ guns = hellblasters, cannons = hellblasters (easily explained by saying it's how much powder they load into the barrel), throwers = rockets (the projectiles are simply different).

I'll just wait until Warhammer Legends come out in 2020 for AoS, personnally. Until then, using them as proxies for the other profiles in Cities of Sigmar work just fine, and Ninthmusketeer is giving some good examples indeed.

I was thinking of mounting the Anvil on top of a steam tank (removing the turret) and gaudying it up a little. That could make a good Celestial Hurricanum or Luminark of Hysh I think.

As a fun note, there's an interesting tidbit with regards to the Duardin "Battleline if..." units.
One unit becomes Battleline if your General is Dispossessed.
The other unit(Irondrakes) become Battleline if your General is Duardin.
It's set up that way for Ironweld Arsenal apparently. Lets you take a Cogsmith as your General and he can make Irondrakes into Battleline.

Thunderers as Irondrakes and Warriors as Longbeards makes sense to me.
How big is the anvil? I'm not personally familiar with that model. Because as other people are saying, the Celestial Hurricanum is really good and is on a 120 x 92 mm oval. I'd say a blacksmith setup would be a fine dwarvy alternate model for it.
And yeah, I would use your artillery as the Freeguild or Stormcast equivalents. Maybe put two dwarves on one base for crew if doing the Stormcast ballista.

Do you think it would be overly confusing to use an old White Dwarf model (with great axe) as a Freeguild General with greatsword to lead my Quarallers (Freeguild Crossbowmen), whilst having a Dwarf Lord with shield and hammer as a Warden King?
