Got caught up on the series, over the last few weeks.
Who will be the bad guy this season? For a long time, it was the protomolecule, but that got solved?
Martians again?

Going by the trailer, this might be more of a 'the heroes caught in the middle of a burgeoning war' rather than specifically 'good guys vs bad guys'.
That was pretty much the MO of the show from the beginning - the "baddie" was never so much the protomolecule itself as it was the mad and/or greedy humans determined to exploit it for their own benefit, and the main characters getting caught up in the resulting conflicts.

As far as I know, this is about the Rocinante being sent in as a sort of scout ship through the space gate, and the ensuing land grab that ensues when the first colony ships follow, while discovering more about why so many systems had been destroyed like Sol was going to be.
I have not read the books yet, but as far as I know that's the continuing story, even though the show diverges from the books at places from what I hear.

Just finished season 2 this week.
A great little show, solid acting, great setting/story, decent CGI/effects.
Can definitely be a little glacial in places but looking forward to getting into season 3 before 4 drops.
Interesting to see if amazon take it in a different direction or keep to the roots.

By 1-irt: Still as long as Hissy keeps showing up this is one of the most entertaining threads ever.
Glacial? I mean S1 took about 6 episodes out of it's 10 to get the story moving (they had to show the 3-4 main story elements before everything starts falling together) but it moves faster than the book does (and it still only gets about half way through "Leviathan wakes" - it took them until S2 to finish off that book and start on the next.)

Most of the bad guys also thought they had good reason to do what they did and there are very few in the show without blood on their hands - Chrisjen Avasarala's first scene was torturing someone (she is one of fav characters), Amos is at least somewhere on the psycopath spectrum - the others have lied and cheated, killed etc.
Thats what makes it so good IMO.

It was good...but it didn't do it for me as much as the previous seasons.
I think the problem is they essentially have to build up the new status quo post-ring gate, but we're already familiar with the world and its main players so there's not as much sense of discovery for the viewer as the first season, nor as much sense of threat from the protomolecule as the second, and unlike the third season the political threads are less immediate, a bit more disconnected from the moment-to-moment tale involving the crew of the Rossie.
All the individual elements are still fantastic, they just don't gel quite as well for me as the previous seasons did.
Also the new Belter baddie they seem to be setting up for season 5 is a smarmy arse, and not even in the love-to-hate style, just hate. I really hope he and his plans just get violently squished right away(bearing in mind I've not read the books, so I've no idea - and no wish to know - if he's a big deal or a side-villain).

Watched first two and enjoying so far - everyone seems to be doing something and stuff is happening so happy.
See where it goes

They've done some chopping and changing with supporting characters for this season. They had to, some of the other cast don't do much in the book.
Avasarala and Bobbie don't have much to do in the book, for example - so they've brought in Bobbie's novella story to the mix (her nephew, troubles on Mars, etc). They've done the backstory bits before - when introducing a few things, like Fred Johnson, or the Epstein drive development.
It also ties in a few parts from book 5 (and sets up season 5).

Same here. I thought Season 1 was pretty good, but I got cold feet cause it seemed kind of like a show where love season 1 but hate everything after. Still want to catch up though to see how far I want to go. The books are slow but great sci-fi.
I thought the first 3 episodes of the latest season were a bit too slow, but after that I got into it (I started watching at 9pm and finished the whole season by like 7pm the next day).
My only real concern is that the way the set up the next series is going to make it feel like a step backwards in terms of interesting directions they could take it.

I was halfway through season two before I even realised that it was a new season... I found season 1 and 2 were excellent, while 3 dragged a little. I like the characters in this show enough to make up for that, though. Season 4 was good, although it felt like an extended setup for bigger things rather than a complete story in its own right.
