Hi all,

I would like to know how was a Chapter Master selected for the Second Founding Successor Chapter’s? Would they have been picked at random or from their battle records from their original Legion to command an entirely new Chapter after the Horus Heresy?

Thanks

They'd have been distinguished or senior officers from their original Legions. I don't know how many are defined in canon but I know Sigismund (founding BT High Marshal) and Alexis Pollux (founding Crimson Fists Chapter Master) were both senior advisers to Dorn.

Most of the Second Founding Chapters were made from existing Legion organisations (Companies / Chapters / Brotherhoods, etc.) and it was generally the ranking officer in those who was made Chapter Master.

For example, Autek Mor was Lord of the Morragul Clan of the Iron Hands, and picked up survivors from other Clans following the Drop Site Massacre in his Grand Cruiser 'Red Talon'. At the Second Founding these Iron Hands became the 'Red Talons'.
