I got some metal swooping hawks recently and getting the wings on them is driving me insane. I had no problems with the Exarch but the standard guys all seem to have one of the slots on their back filled in with what looks like extra metal while the other one is fine. Example: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ylxuw35l6y2ap6r/filledinbit.jpg?dl=0

I assume this is just how they came rather than a casting mistake as each type of model has it in the same spot (the guys pointing their guns straight forward have it on the right side). How am I supposed to remove it so the wing fits? Or am I just missing something obvious here?

That looks like a blob of super glue in the joint hole. If you're feeling brave, take a scalpel to it and scrape out a new hole.

If it is super glue you can cool/freeze it and pick at it - or a tiny vice drill does a great job of drilling into the superglue and cracking it or letting you pull it out.

It's definitely not super glue, feels and looks like metal close-up. Although I realise the lighting makes it look a bit like superglue.

Could be JB Weld, a metal polymer adhesive some people use on metal minis. It's a resin with metal as part of its composition. It's generally used as a temporary automotive repair adhesive.

Definitely not JB Weld either; I've used that before and would recognise it. It really looks like the same material as the rest of the model.

All of the metal ones I've had the slot was open and the wings went in fine - so it must be either a casting error or something that somebody's put in there assuming these are 2nd hand. Can you drill it out?

A suggestion I can make if you fancy it and have spares is swapping the wings for the Sanguinary Guard wings. They look nicer and with a little work and some pinning to aid adhesion, I haven't had a single one fall out.

They are second hand but the exarch bits and a lot of the wings were still on the sprue things so basically never used. I'm assuming casting error, just weird that they all had it. I did worry I could have been sold recasts but pretty unlikely given it's metal and not resin.

Either way I got most of it out starting with a pin vice and drill and then hacking away at it with side cutters and a file. It was kinda messy and required a bit of work on the wings as well bit I got there in the end and all my messiness was hidden once the wings went in.

Thanks for all the help everyone !
