It looks like they are listening the player base and doing away with the atrocious happy-go-lucky graphics of D3 in favor of a much more realistic and grimdark set. I got instant chills thinking back to the original Diablo trailer from 1997 from that opening. And, given it's been announced for XBone and PS4, this is likely to drop in the next year or so!

The WoW expansion is definitely next year, and is up for preorder. D4 isn't, and hasn't revealed much beyond three classes (Sorceress, Druid, Barbarian), and the theoretical Big Bad, Lilith, daughter of Hatred (Mephiston), mother of Nephalem (the angel/demon hybrids and their descendents, which includes the d3 protagonist, and humans)
Lilith's return has driven people, demons and beasts nuts, more cults, all crazy. Prayers to anything go unanswered.
Locations:
Scosglen, land of the druids, and evil woodlands.
Fractured Peaks, frozen mountains, monks and horrors below
Dry Steppes, Salt flats, mercs, barbarians and cannibal blood mages
Hawezar, swamp of disease, poison and despair. Witches
Kehjistan, looks mountainous, desert, civilized, but ruined by countless invasions, cultists.
Redesign of the Fallen in the picture that accompanies the Kehjistan info. Lot more gangly.
Gameplay info:
- endless demons to slaughter
-'deep' customization: talents, skill points, runes and legendary loot
-randomized dungeons, dynamic open world
- Survive and conquer darkness or succumb to the shadows- [don't know if that's meaningful gameplay info or just a buzzline]

That's a bit of a surprise. The D2 Sorceress was killed (by the D2 Assassin) in the D3 Wizsrd's backstory. Are they undoing that? Or is it a new Sorceress?

*shrug* I've always been under the impression the characters were from profession/class/culture groups and there were a pack of them somewhere off camera. I know they named them for Heart of the Storm and books and whatever, but the Paladin came from the Paladins of Zakaharoom, and the Wizard had colleagues and so forth.
What surprises me is they seem (at this point) to be making the classes male or female rather than having options like the did in D3. That seems like a step backwards. I like customization options.

I can dream can't I?
Even with all the dire failings of D3, the one that stops me the most is that my internet is just not good enough to play a fast reaction hack and slash game. Heck I tried their "demo" version and the jittering gameplay instantly made it unplayable (that the end of level boss couldn't actually deal more damage than my health regeneration on normal without wearing ANY equipment was just pure salt in the wound).
I can play Starcraft 2 offline and just lose out on the achievements if I want too - I've a choice there.
D4 Bliz - please give PC players the same benefits as Console players and let us play offline too for those of us not living with superfast hyper magic broadband coming down magical ether cables.
As much as I want to be stoked for D4, I don't know if I want to give money to a company that bends the knee to an oppressive regime over its own customers.

IIRC, the background stories that were posted online didn't include any names. But there were enough hints in the Wizard's background story to make it clear that the Sorceress and Assassin in that story were the same ones from Diablo 2.
The D3 male Barbarian was confirmed to be the D2 Barbarian. And one of the D2 Necromancer's pupils turned up in the game. I kept waiting for a reveal that the warrior companion's master was actually the D2 Paladin gone bad. But since it appears they're leaving the D3 story lines incomplete, that will never happen.
I agree with the classes. It's a bit odd in this day and age that the classes would be sex-specific, particularly since D3 was not.

B-but that Chinese playerbase! I mean that's basically why they went in for Diablo Immortal, gotta milk that Chinese cash cow.

To be fair, that's not exactly clear. It's a trailer for a game that's still a few years out. It would be weird for them to walk that back, especially since it wasn't generally a complain in III. The whole 3 people around a fire thing was a clear throwback to 2, but that doesn't necessarily mean that's what character creation/selection looks like. Blizzard notably uses their/them (i.e. gender neutral terms) when describing the three classes in the trailer.

Man, Blizzard trailers/cgi cutscenes are amazing. Its pretty much the only contact that I’ve had with Blizzard products since the last Starcraft expansion and it never really disappoints me
"Sometimes the only victory possible is to keep your opponent from winning." - The Emperor, from The Outcast Dead.
"Tell your gods we are coming for them, and that their realms will burn as ours did." -Thostos Bladestorm

Yeah, their cinematics are amazing. Its one of the reason the Warcraft movie was so terrible- had they done it internally, it would have been so much better.
But unfortunately, the gameplay and worldbuilding never quite lives up to the potential of the cinematics.

The brief write-ups for at least two of the classes use definitive third person singular terms that aren't "It" (i.e. they're not gender-neutral). And a Sorceress by definition is female. They could call the male version a Sorcerer. But Sorcerer is perfectly acceptable as a gender-neutral term, and they specifically picked Sorceress. It makes me think that classes will be gender-locked once again.
If they have an offline mode I might bother to get it on release. Otherwise I'll wait for a hefty sale. Tired of the online only mode games.

You gotta lower your ideals of freedom if you wanna suck on the warm teat of China.

Jesus Blizzard... can't you ever do anything right?
I don't understand the fetish for 'shared open space.'
The most common reactions I've seen to games with it are:
A) ignore it completely
B) make tasteless comments in whatever passes for a chat system.
I don't grasp whatever theoretical benefits come from it, or why it would be worth the Development and QA hours.
I get a multiplayer option so people can play with their buddies, or online matchmaking in competitive games... I don't get this.

Eh to be fair I'm surprised they didn't make it into the next WoW type MMO game. But yeah a hack and slash game can work singleplayer it doesn't "need" to be online all the time :(
At least I've got Grim Dawn, though as good as they are, yeah, they've not got anywhere near the budget to produce an introduction video like that one up there.
I've been thinking about loading up Titan Quest again. Just might actually, cause I think I like it even more than Grim Dawn just because of its setting and tone.

See Titanquest never "got" me. It always felt a bit "robotical" in how you played it. I think that the maps are very linear and I came to it late also spoils it for me. Granted Grim Dawn is also linear but the maps themselves feel more sprawling and they give you good reason to explore around them. Titan Quest I felt like I was just on the rail-roads to victory no matter what I did.
And yet I love Dungeon Siege which is even more rail-road linear.
Well, I suppose I'll have to sit down and play more Blasphemous for that 'Dark Fantasy' kick. Even if Blizzard was actually ethical, this purchase just became a hard 'pass' for me.
Ugh. Well, I guess I'm not getting it until it goes on sale for like half off.

I can't wait to see what kind of in-game online store it will have and all the wonderful micro-transactions it will bring. Maybe when you buy it you get one character and get the opportunity to buy the others with real money through the store? The possibilities are endless!
Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.

Why, exactly?
This game is at best 2-3 years down the pipe. A TON of things can change, including the "Always online" stuff some of you have noted you're not game for.
Make your voice heard on that and provide feeback to the company so that they know. A lot of game companies are doing the whole "always online" thing right now because this is what the market is clambering for. Fortnite like games.
It's amazing how jaded some of you are in here.
I am quite please with what I see so far, and I'm eager to watch the game grow and develop over the next few years.

Yeah. Companies listen to the market, not to unsolicited feedback.
Once a game hits the announcement stage, major changes don't generally happen. Overhauling a game to not include the online component is a stupidly huge change, because you're moving all sorts of processes from the server architecture to the user end.
That isn't happening at this stage, certainly not from the 'don't you all have phones?' company.
Blizzard is also pretty infamous for not even listening to feedback from their beta servers, when getting feedback is part of the point. They fix bugs and typos, but systems rarely get changed.
