Three plus
Three up

Directly inspired by the "forty kay" vs. "forty thousand" poll...

Would you say that Marines have a "three plus save", or a "three up save"?

I'm a "three up" guy. Because, well, 3+ means you have to roll "three or up". Makes sense to say "three up".

I assume its up because I've only ever heard it referred to that way by every podcast that I've listened to.

I use them in a same sentence.

"he's a three plus save, so I need three's or up to save."

I don't think it's a either-or situation.

I don't think I often say "3 up" honestly. But I would say "3 plus" if asked "what is a Marine's save?"

Then, when rolling, I am likely to say "on 3s." Although I likely have said "3 ups" from time to time, since it was common in my old playgroup, I think.

To me, "3 up" is a roll, "3 plus" is a save. But I'd use "on 3's" interchangeably with "3 up" even though it is likely way more confusing if you don't supply the implicit "and up" yourself.

I use both and switch between them at completely random times. I think I use up a bit more than +, but it's probably close.

I read the statline as "three plus", while in game (speaking German) I say what would translate to "On three"

Three plus sounds more logical to me if I had to pick one

Custom40k Homebrew - Alternate activation, huge customisation, support for all models from 3rd to 10th edition

Designer's Note: Hardened Veterans can be represented by any Imperial Guard models, but we've really included them to allow players to practise their skills at making a really unique and individual unit. Because of this we won't be making models to represent many of the options allowed to a Veteran squad - it's up to you to convert the models. (Imperial Guard, 3rd Edition)

I put switch back and forth, as I do... but when playing I tend to just say the number, and it is implied that you need to roll that number Plus / Up / Or Better / Or More.

"Shot my Guardsmen with a heavy bolter (ya' bastard) ? You'll need three's (to wound), and I'll save on five's since I'm in cover."

Funny, I've never heard three up and was about to say I figured it was a British-ism. Always been 'plus' for me when describing stats (eg 'he has a three-plus save'), or the number when discussing requirements (eg 'hitting on 3s').

Same. I don't know why it annoys me so much, but it does. Everywhere a save is described it's 3+, is it so hard to say what is written?

I use 3 plus as an answer usually while 3 up is what I say when letting my opponent what numbers I am looking for in a roll if that makes sense.

I say 3 up when rolling, and usually say 3 plus when describing the save.

3 up just rolls off the tongue easy during a game.

I don’t think I’ve ever said or heard “3 plus” the whole time I’ve played 40k, either for the stat line or for a saving throw. Must be a characteristic from the people I play with!

I say X-up for anything.

"Hitting on a 3-up, Wounding on 4-up, 3-up save."

I also interchange that with: "Hits on 3s, Wounds on 4s, Saves on 3s."

I hardly ever use "plus".

I always used to say "Three Plus", now I find myself saying "3-up" when referring to saves, and saves only.

They hit on a 3-plus, wound on a 4-plus and they have a 3-up save, which they pass on a 4-plus because AP-1.

'Threes' usually.
'Three up' when I hear it from the other player first.

I assume this is a shortening of 'Three and up'. I try to stop myself from saying it, though.
