Maybe the two most epic fails of the year.

Okay, so Bethesda has announced a premium subscription for Fallout 76 (no, I can't fathom why either I'm still amazed to hear people actually play the game) that can cost as much as $100 year. (Foul language and crude humor warning) They however failed to secure the url name, falloutfirst.com which has instead fallen into the hands of someone with an ax to grind. This person has turned the URL into a brutal lampoon of Bethesda's business practices for the last few years. The website was down for a little (rumor is Bethesda had it taken down but I've seen nothing but conjecture to prove it) but the website now appears to be up and running again paid for and licensed by the guy who swiped it out from under Bethesda's feet.

F76 is probably the parade exemple of what is wrong generally with the Industry at this time.

At this point I have zero hope for TES6. It's going to be a mess of microtransactions and other F2P/P2W garbage.

They already have that with elder scrolls online.

My big fear/expectation for ES6 is it will be exactly like Skyrim, but with even less story and character interaction. And have 10 different versions with all the same bugs.

Or cancelled altogether as they focus on whatever this sci-fi game is and then try to reinvent themselves to shed some of this bad PR.

The scifi game no one asked for and still cares about? Yeah.

I want Tes and maybe a fallout or two. I don't care about any other project they produce and most fans I've spoken to feel the same way.

It's more that Sword and Shield is really starting to show that GameFreak - for all their vast wealth and resources - hasn't really utilised any of them. Considering they have possibly one of the biggest earning franchises in the game world they also seem to have resisted the temptation really drive home improvements into their product. Cutting down the Dex under arguments of time and how long it would take to make all the animations and such fall on deaf ears when they basically are just doing what they've always done - re-use stock animations and such form one game and just up the resolution.

It just seems that for a company which should be able to afford the cutting edge, they are short changing the customers. They got away with it for years I think because the handheld had some forgiveness in them for their simpler approach; whilst the side games were always side games. The Switch game is sort of a big revolution for them and its just not like they are pushing to really achieve.

Honestly its more disappointing than anything else.

It's not in the same league as Fallout though and yeah the shift with Skyrim to twice push paid mods and then the fallout mmo mess makes me worry that the next Eldar Scrolls will end up a mess. The only saving grace is that its likely to happen after governments slap the game industry HARD for gambling or at least put enough barriers in place that game companies abandon the idea.

I agree. Creators of Failout 76 now looks like disney villain. They are just bad.

Hey now. Bethesda's work on 76 would be embarrassing to Disney villains.

Their patches routinely reintroduce bugs, progression has all sorts of issues, group content falls apart on a regular basis (people lose their connection, then can't get back together with the group they were playing with- I watched folks try out the 'raid'/'dungeon' thing release a couple months back, and they couldn't even get back inside the complex, once they all quit and rejoin on a new server shard, because the guy that dropped couldn't rejoin that shard- someone else logged in and took the population up to the cap).

Its an iteration of a fallout game gone absolutely wrong. Yes, some people want to play with friends. But they wanted that added to a traditional fallout game, and not have a bunch of randos wandering around and the world resetting every time they left.

Efficiency is the highest virtue.

The frightening thing about TES6 is that there's an interview with the great Todd Howard where he says how frustrated he is that the have no back and forth with Skyrim players past the initial purchase.

What he means is that Skyrim was a huge success, but as a standalone non-live service, they can't keep making money off of it.

TES6 is going to be hell.

The question is what improvements do people actually want? Whenever they change things people lose their minds and demand the same combat engine that's been kicking around for over 20 years.

I don't think people realize how much bespoke content Pokemon has these days. We're up to nearly a thousand unique renders and I can't imagine the volume of unique animation skeletons that results in. There's no real way to keep that up to date, let alone do the kind of "every attack is fully animated" kind of thing people imagine. They've pretty much always struggled with this; ever since the first Stadium game only allowed about 60 of the original 151. They can't even rely on what they've already created, as it only takes a few years for some of those old renders to look incredibly dated. I remember when they tried reusing Arcanine in Colosseum to hilarious results. It's kind of funny, because the strength of the original games was just that it was an incredibly efficient design, but that efficiency turned into something that became unmaintable in 3D.

It's a franchise that's been in need of a purge, or at least, a limited format for years now. They've also really needed to cut back on the legendary spam, because more than anything that's been the messiest thing to keep adding. Having each gen focus on a subset of monsters is a good way to go about it as long as they cut a lot of the time sinks out of training so its not dependent on spending a hundred hours IV breeding the perfect Pokemon in Ruby so that it can make use of a random giveaway move before being ported to Black 2 to get the TM it needs before learning a new move at level 33 in Sun. We need to get back to just catching and playing with what each game has to offer, which from all the reviews I've read, sounds exactly like what they've done. This insistence on adhering to decades old games is a ton of resources spent on repainting the walls of a crumbling house.

The Bobby pin weight is dumb, unreleastic and pointless, but from a game mechanic perspective in a 'survival' game, I understand the logic that prompted the decision.

I don't have any idea what 'measure these' refers to. Please provide context if it's actually important.

Someone was so agitated by the completely insane boby pin weight, he send Todd Howard a bunch of bobby pins.

Todd then made fun of the incident, because the pins came with a note: "weigh these".

I sometimes watch ItsAGundam but i'm not as fond of him as some other commentators on games. He focuses on twitch thots and some gaming issues (epic games store practices and this). I'm sad he has to bleep out so much these days. I guess it shows the times we're living in. On the thot issues I usually don't care except the fact Twitch won't fairly moderate people. It's honestly less the thots and more twitch i'm mad at unless someone is abusing their pets or other people. If you're a thot and you rake in money you can practically murder somebody and live stream it and you'll get like a 10 day ban off twitch.

This is not an issue, Flaming. Really. I mean, really really. An issue is when something bad happens. This is not an issue.

You're saying it like I find them really bad. It's just basically strip chat ladies except a more toned down version.

By 'issue' I meant that's what he always talks about. As I said I rarely watch him FOR that reason.
