Each Battletome specifies how faction specific terrain is to be placed. However the GHB 2019 gives different rules for placing faction terrain. Which one takes precedence?

Was a weird change and still kind of contentious.

I have a growing suspicion GW isn't sure what they want to do with faction terrain. Then again, maybe the ossiarch tome is simply a design anomaly.

In a Pitched Battle, faction terrain must be set up more than 3" from any other terrain features and more than 1" from any objectives, in addition to any other restrictions that apply to it. Sometimes this will make it impossible for a faction terrain piece to be set up; in this case, it is not used.
The bolded part is what I was glossing over. That does clear things up, although it seems NinthMusketeer has the right of it. They are clueless with how terrain should operate. Why on earth does Ossiarch get a free pass while everyone else gets told to pound sand if their terrain doesn't fit?

Its not only that. Some terrain goes down before territories are chosen, some goes down after. Some terrain must be X" away from enemy territory, some not. Now we even have a terrain piece that is 'owned' by the deploying player whereas all other terrain is totally neutral once it goes down (but tends to only benefit the army that deploys it). That is before getting into the variations in effectiveness between them.

Their terrain rules suck. I have yet to meet someone who outside of a tournament would object to adjusting terrain to fit your faction terrain in.

GW made an errata leaving it up to the TOs to decide. The last 20+ major tournaments around the global have ignored the faction terrain rules per GHB2019. This has been confirmed by Honest Wargamer, Warhammer Weekly, Rerolling Ones, AoS Coach and the list goes on and on.
