As noted on a few other posts, ive been away from 40k for about 20-25 years (first saw it played in 1987 in sheffield GW and hooked then).

Went on holiday in September...bought White Dwarf to read on the plane. Got back and bought Dark Imperium the day I got back. Painted it up.

I now have(or have coming/pending from pre orders)-

AM Spearhead detachement + other units making it to around 1500pts.

An eldar force(still in boxes) pack which came from a supplier offering a set of boxes together...about 1k points.

Sister box pre ordered.

Ordering the Tyranid xmas box this weekend.

A Battlefield nearly built with all sorts on it

Went to Warhammer world at the weekend, did the tour, picked up a basilisk as you do.

Nothing like as much as some of you lot I know...but its crazy from Sept.

At work, I find myself thinking about....shall I just get a Valkrie for the AM for myself for Xmas too....or what if I added a knight and a Wraithknight to the AM/Eldar forces!! (quicker way to get to 2k points for both as I am painting both forces to play vs a friend)

Am I mad? Is this just par for the course?

I stopped playing and collecting warhammer for about 3 or so years due to lack of motivation and enjoyment for the game. Since returning last year, I've immensely enjoyed my time and since March/April I've been gaming nearly once or twice a week!

With that has come more mins, buying Blackstone Fortress and lots of Eldar to undertake my first kitbash project and it's been a lot of fun!

Also looking at the Tyranid box this weekend, I want to go back to my roots with the big gribblies!

Yeah, I've had to put pretty heavy self imposed restrictions on my habits to curb the 40k addiction. Ebay is gone from my phone, I never buy 40k from anywhere but my store, and the only money I allow myself to spend is what I earn thru commission painting.

My budget just can't handle what I used to spend on 40k. And now I never have to look at a pile of unpainted minis.

My advice is, look what makes you overspend.

For me it was following leaked rules heavily and then going and building a list experimentally with the new rules. I'd then open up ebay to search the units I'd need for the new list and find - gasp - this UNBELIEVABLE DEAL that clearly only I savvy ebay master could find.

So, now, my buying priority is static, my funds are artificially restricted which means I parcel out purchases in advance, and I have purged the horrible ebay app from my life.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

If it is an additiction it doesn't seem like a very bad one. Much worse could happen to a man.

If you have to kill, then kill in the best manner. If you slaughter, then slaughter in the best manner. Let one of you sharpen his knife so his animal feels no pain.

I was away for the longest time. Right at the start of 6th edition I dropped off. But I sometimes checked up on what was new.

When Shadowspear came out my drool muscle was activated. They had finally managed to make Spess Muhreens interesting after 30 years.

My only anguish is that I want a Ghostkeel (or three) for my Tau army but it sucks, competes with the Riptide (which I don't actually want!) - and if those were the only issues I'd be fine - but it also has the heccin' audacity to be the most overpriced piece of plastic in the whole army. GAH

I've never quit 40K. EVER. I started playing in 2006. 40K has certainly had its ups and downs, but it has been my primary (pretty much only) source of gaming entertainment.
I can definitively say I'm addicted, but my experience has evolved over the years.

At first I was more or less just a casual player who like building and painting.
Due to monetary limitations, I learned how to make cheap conversions pretty early on.
Eventually I became more of a competitive player, at one time being one of the top players in my (admittedly small, 20-30 player) group.
The biggest change was going from single man to married with 2 boys. Combined with GWs rapid fire releases of the last few years, I just cannot be competitive anymore.

But that's ok, because now both of my boys play 40K and I have to say it's the best fun I've had.
I may not get to play very often (I actually don't think I've played a game with someone other than my boys in over a year), but when we play, we get to set the terms and environment in which we play, so everyone has fun.

I also think I've done some of my best painting in the last few years because I paint for the fun of it and to amass a collection, rather than just getting the new hotness table ready.

I don't think I'll ever not be into 40k, but I have no doubt my experience will continue to evolve.
