With our first game coming later in the month...quick question.

For 4x4 board with 500 points each. Is it too much to bring a Chimera and a Leman russ for the opposing Eldar to handle or is that perfectly normal?

Got 2 guard units, 1 Scions , command squad, heavy unit...then the chimera and LR. Its a nice way of getting to 500 quicker rather than loads of infantry...but got this nagging doubt it will unbalance things?

At 500pts some armies may find a Russ hard to handle, some might be fine. Do you know what stuff your opponent's got? Craftworld Eldar have pretty bad internal balance (some units are really good, some units are really bad) and it'll depend heavily on what they're taking.

(ex. Guard really don't like to-hit penalties, so using Conceal on a unit of Alaitoc Wraithguard (-2 to hit) would let them approach close enough to whack the Russ pretty much with impunity.)

It always depends on your eldar opponent has. If he has a squad of banshees, a squad of scorpions and some other foot infantry that needs to get close to work, it well maybe too much. If he has a lot of bikers and tanks of his own it may feel reverse.

I am building both armies so I know what will be fighting ;]

1x Guardians w/missle launcher
1x Dire Avengers
1x Wave Serpeant
War Walker
Wraithlord

Im using what I have for Eldar...although I do have Wraithguard too which would take it way over 500.

Oh a couple more things sprang to mind.

I will be using objectives and the card sets. Should I use all 6 objectives for 500 points or lower it on a 4x4 board to maybe 4 objectives?

500 v 500 will be 2 patrol detachments as I understand it, that means no Command points? I like command points. Can I /should I add in maybe 3-4 command points each just to introduce that mechanic?

Caveat: I haven't played much 8th, and haven't played with Eldar in 8th.

For CP you get 3 base for being battle forged (i.e. fitting any detachments) plus the bonus for each detachment (which as you say is 0 for a patrol) so you would get 3 each anyway.

I would say you should be OK with those two forces depending on what the war walker and Wraithlord are armed with. The WL should be able to quite happily punch the Russ to death if nothing else.

I think your idea of just using 4 objectives for a 4x4 table is spot on as it could get too crowded otherwise.

The game will probably play very quickly even though you're learning as 8th is very lethal, so you could always swap sides and play again. That's quite a good way of learning what stuff does.

honestly, as far as i can judge, this shuld be a fine matchup.

The leman might be a bit tanky, otoh the wraith thingy should do the trick.
Also chimeras are not something you take serious on the battlefield.Sincerly someone that plays Mechanized wannabee ig.
