Lately I´ve seen a lot about, what I gather, Blood Ravens being thieving bastards. Where does this come from?

In the video game, you could get weapon upgrades that had flavor text like "This sword was gifted to the Blood Ravens by the Dark Angels following the Omicron Persei VIII uprising. The Dark Angels maintain they have no record of this gift" and various things like that. Obviously so the game had ways to give you cool items with a history behind it.

So the joke became that they stole all these weapons and claimed they were "gifts".

Basically, loads of the "stuff" that can be acquired across the Dawn of War (2 high you play as Blood Ravens) series references other chapters in a "blatantly a relic" sense.

I attempted to give a response but it seems the post has vanished?

Jokes aside, this is a meme developed from the Dawn of War games where the chapter originated. Being a game, the developers wanted to put in nifty references to other parts of 40k and so many of the weapons are referenced to be relics of other chapters (ie, the Talon of the Doom Eagle and Eagle Talon, a paired Thunder Hammer and Plasma Pistol) are relics of the Doom Eagles chapters. In many cases, the reason they are in the Blood Raven armoury is "unexplained." Combined with a culture of collecting relics and knowledge, the joke became that the Blood Ravens stole relics from other chapters when they weren't looking or paying attention.

Its an extrapolated meme from the Dawn of War games, specifically Dawn of War 2. They somehow manage to acquire and collect relics and wargear from an absurd number of organizations, including multiple other marine chapters as well as several esoteric sources.

In reality its because the developers of the game gave every item in a pseudo-RPG title a history, and most of those histories involved origins outside the Blood Ravens.

A throw away line from the last Space Marine codex (or was it White Dwarf?) that basically said the Blood Ravens collect artifacts because, you know, ravens collect trinkets for their amusement/nests. I think they got a special rule in White Dwarf that allows them to take an artifact from other chapters for a couple CP?

I don't think they actually got that, but it would have been awesome if they did.

They didnt. BUT. Because they're a chapter of unknown founding they can (for rules purposes anyway) declare themselves successors of different chapters in different games and use the supplement rules to nab different relics.

I just run mine as whatever chapter I choose - I have all the characters converted. Blood Ravens even steal rules!

Their pistol relic has a subtle nod to it being "gifted".

Ravens, or rather magpie which are a kind of raven (I think?) are also very prone to theft in real life.

I think the fluff behind it (that came later) is that the BRs are constantly trying to find info about their heritage, which is unknown to them. So it is quite gracious of other Chapters to "gift" some of their relics to the BRs in their pursuit of this knowledge, even though it's unlikely those other Chapters know just how gracious they are being

their pistol relic isn't actually BR specific it's just a generic pistol from the 8.5 codex. the blood ravens rules where a Codex 8.5 preview, there's nothing in it unique to the blood ravens. especially now with the master's of the chapter rules from F&F

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

Its the only thing resembling fluff they have. They steal artifacts and make bad decisions.
