Hey all

So, I'm trying to repaint a Leman Russ, in the classic Steel Legion scheme. Here I go again with trying match old paints to new...

I've found from the old 3rd edition Codex Armageddon that the classic Steel Legion scheme IG tanks were painted Fortress Grey with Rotting Flesh stripes. OK, I can do Fortress Grey still, that's Administratum Grey. Rotting Flesh has been discontinued though, hasn't it, Nurgling Green (as all the conversion charts list it as) is no where near close, is it?

So, anyone here know of a good way of getting that Rotting Flesh colour used on Steel Legion tanks using the current Citadel range?

Thanks in advance for any help on this.

Nah rotting flesh was like a pale yellowy green. I don't know if theres a modern equivalent, but as I always do, I'd suggest mixing your own.

This and those paint conversion charts are so fudged that it's not really accurate.

However much of the Vallejo Game line was based on/copies (because they wanted the contract with Ge-Dub) so for older paints the GW-Vallejo lines are pretty close.

Pale yellow green of rotting flesh was pretty closely mimicked by the Vallejo Game Dead Flesh line which is a greenish-caucasian flesh tone.

According to GW their closest equivalent is Nurgling Green. Take note of the following from the chart:

Be aware that as the new paint range comprises brand-new formulations we can suggest close, but not exact comparisons.

Overall its up to you to decide if a given equivalent is close enough or not.

Spoiler:

EDIT: Of course, you could get the Coat d'Arms equivalent from Black Hat Miniatures.

My last project was actually trying to do the same camo as you. I went with Nurgling Green and Dawnstone (there's no way that the dark gray on the old pics is equivalent to Administratum Grey). I also drybrushed with Administratum Grey instead of white for the highlights. I like my result, though it might not be an exact copy of the original. Darker gray might have worked better.. But anyway, from my pic you can judge for yourself if you want to go with Nurgling Green or something else.

Thanks guys.

Thank you mcmatilla, that's hugely helpful. That combination of Nurgling Green/Dawnstone doesn't actually look a million miles off the original GW models. For my purposes the Nurgling Green could probably do with some Ushabti Bone or Screaming Skull added, and the grey could be a darker grey than the Dawnstone (perhaps Mechanicus Standard Grey?), but it looks like a good ball park to start with for my Leman Russ.

I'd like to stick to using Citadel paints (strangely) because I can (in theory) pop in my local GW store, and avoid having to pay online retailer's postage, which on a single pot or a few pots makes it more expensive.

The "guide" in 40k 3rd edition Codex Armageddon, states that they drybrushed the Fortress Grey over black, so that might be why it looked darker.
