Subject: Army list: Iron Warriors (2500pt), first try at 30k.

Hellow, fellow kids.
I'm contemplating getting into 30k., and this is my first shot at a list for Iron Warriors.
These are some of the things I think I need help with.
1. I have zero experience with the meta game of 30k., so have no clue if I bring enough firepower or stand any chance of stopping an enemy advance.
2. If I take the plunge, It will (hobby project wise) be an attempt to use as many of the random SM miniatures I have accummulated through the years as possible, so the list are influenced by this - That is of course no good if the list is no good.
3. The overall idea is to disrupt advance at all cost, and then slowly shoot it down. Thats the idea behind sinking so much cost into a deepstriking terminator kamikaze squad (also, I have a nice conversion idea). I'm fairly sure I can scrap up enough fire power to halt the advance of most armies on at least one side of the board, while the deepstriking terminators with Warmonger disrupts the other flank or try to hit land raiders/spartans from the rear. Shooty dreadnought tries to take down any flyers, Close combat Dreadnought and Warsmith with veterans goes after enemy deepstrikes into my gunline. The rest of the army shoots. After that all troops makes a last minute grab to secure victory conditions.

It's a reasonable place to start, but as-is if someone drops a Thanatar or Medusa template on your Tyrants turn one you're out most of your anti-vehicle firepower. I might suggest dropping the melee Castaferrum Dread and using the extra points to add shattershells to your Rapiers, put missile launchers into one of your Veteran squads, and/or swap the Mortis Dread's autocannons for missile launchers or lascannons.

Great suggestions, I'll play around with that.
Now, as said I'm not familiar with the meta, and this might not be such a problem in a game with Primarchs and super heavies abound, but as I see it the two biggest weaknesses is the huge amount of points sunk into two units and their support HQs. However, they do have a 4+ inv. save, isn't that going to keep them at least semi-resilient against incoming fire? Would it be better to spend the points on say, 3 predators?

Three Predators instead of what? The Tyrants? They're very different units; 30k Predators are a lot worse at being long-ranged gunboats than 40k Predators, they don't have the same level of all-purpose killy turret guns and their ability to move and fire is way worse. I find 30k Predators work better as turret-only close support for an advancing army than part of a long-range firebase.
The biggest advantage to the Tyrants over almost any other heavy support unit you could take is that they can move and fire a lot of guns with no loss of effectiveness, so you can hide them out of LOS and pop up to unleash a missile barrage if your opponent has enough firepower to threaten them, and they'll outrange a lot of AP2 firepower. The 4+ Invulnerable save isn't as important as it seems for a shooty unit because that's the same cover save you get from ruins in 30k, but it'll be really very useful if the enemy gets to you and you need them to wade into melee, or if you meed a Mechanicum army (they have some cover-reducing tricks).
As to the large cost of the two units that's really just built into 30k army book design; most armies will be built around a couple of big expensive units.

Yes, instead of the Tyrants, but thanks, then my initial reasoning was sound. They do seem like both awesome area denial troops and pretty effective anti armour. With regards to shatter shells on the quad launchers, I guess I should find the points, but it just seems like a lot to sink into very few wounds, even tho they will stay hidden the entire battle. I haven't done the crunch in regard to autocannon or missile launchers vs. most flyers, but I guess a better solution than the current one would be to downgrade the missile launchers on the dread back down to autocannons and use the points for shattershells for the quad launchers.
However, possible adjustments. All changes marked in red.

Correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t think a Centurion in Terminator Armor can take Melta Bombs?
