so my group has been playing and I think part of the meta is kind of shifting to titans that are outfitted with the same weapon or as close to the same as possible. it seams to work very well. a war hound with two bolters on it is scary. how would you counter play that. I don't want to fall into having to running similar builds. I like diversity in my builds. I am looking for enlightenment on how people run there stuff.

Running doubles is useful in the sense that when your titan performs, it does that job well. On the other hand, it becomes easier for your opponent to counterplay that, for an example your twin bolter Hound is dead in the water if kept afar, if its mobility gets hindered or you shift your line in a fashion that requires your opponent to reorganize. The more they specialize, the more they lose flexibility and open their plan to disruption: knock out the other Hound with twin plasmas fast and let the double bolter doggo howl in fury as it has a bit harder time getting anything killed on its own.

See their plan, dismantle it and defeat it in detail. A twin bolter Hound is at its scariest when it is part of a squadron, especially in Lupercal. Disable its partners. If not possible, avoid its puny 20" range. Try to force your opponent to time their activations badly and maneuver out of their way.

The game does not, by itself, favor doubling down on all the same things but different things that synergize well but allow you flexibility to get most out of a wide range of different situations.

As an example, my favourite Reaver is Gatling, Melta and Apoc in a Venator, quite often with Earthbreaker missiles upgraded. It can break shields if alone, it can brutalize things with the Melta when given Opportunities, it can hamstring others mobility if Opportunities aren't in Melta range as well as perform in supportive roles in weirder situations. A double Melta would perhaps do better in absolute brutality midfield, but it would cut down on its other functions so hard it's not even funny.

In Titanicus there seem to be two common methodologies in arming your titans. One favors specialization and the other self-sufficiency. I personally always outfit titans to be self sufficient as it is a far less fragile approach and gives you more tactical flexibility in game. If possible I'll run a shield stripper, midrange, high strength weapon combination.

Specialist titans are good, but knock out one of two (the shield stripper or the heavy hitter) and watch the other flounder.

For my Venator maniple, the Reaver is the jack of all trades while the two accompanying hounds are running doubles, one for vulcans and the other destructors. The Reaver will have at least one melee weapon and a cannon for punching holes in armour, while another for stripping shields.

For the Warhound supporting my household, its dual plasma blastguns for much needed firepower.

Casual gaming, mostly solo-coop these days.
