So I recently picked up Dark Imperium as I'm getting back into gaming and it was a great source of both the big rulebook and Primaris models, particular the captain and Ancient. However, I'm left unsure what to do with the Chaos half. I do have a half-assed black legion force that I did eventually plan to add some Plague Marines to, but I'm unsure as to the usefulness of the others. The characters can be run as Sorcerors or Dark Apostles or Termy-Lords obviously, and maybe squeeze in the Poxwalkers as Cultists but I don't want to go to the hassle of buying a Death Guard codex just to use them all. I was thinking of selling the Chaos half of the box but if the Plague Marines and Lord are the only valuable components, I may just sell everything

Everything you mentioned is in the CSM Codex, so I don't really see your problem? If it's just about the viability, Sorcerers and Dark apostles are always useful, personally I use them as often as a lord. They're not on Daemon Prince levels, but solid units.

yeah none of the death guard stuff other then the plague marines are exactly useable in a CSM army. you can make some of the other stuff work but...

IMHO you're more likely to get more demand for the fulls et so I'd just sell the whole damn thing.

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

Just get the DG codex. It doesn't break the bank.

The issue isn't whether than they are in the Codex or not, its whether or not their proxy/use and loadout is useful. A Nurgle Terminator Lord with Power Axe, some melee cultists, a squad of haphazardly equipped Plague Marines... If there's something in the DI box that's very useful gameplay wise I'd happily take it on. But if they're only mediocre, or worse, I'd rather not waste time, money and paint on them.

I already have a power axe Khorne terminator lord, 2 dark apostles, cultists and some Chosen, so it would be similar to my current roster but with a DG flavour.

This is what I was afraid of. How useful are the PM straight out of the box? I know there's a plasma gun and a plasma pistol and a power fist but are they in any way an effective loadout?

Its more a case of having 6 armies already, and not wanting to start another unloved Chaos force. Plus the funds of a sold-off set can go towards funding the armies I already have. I only got the box for cost effective buying of the BRB and the unique SM models.

In which case I suggest you sell. The DI units for the Death Guard are all popular and will be easy to shift. If you want to play the faction in the future keep them, it's really great.
