I keep seeing a lot praise and/or vitriol about the new flight stands. I for one like them.

How do you feel?

Looks wise I prefer them by miles.

In terms of use they are a pain though.
I tend to drill a small hole for them to slot into instead of using the “cradle” they have.

This works unless it’s models like Endrinriggers, in which case the cradle glues to a sideways pipe which is simply a pain.

The new flight stands a fiddly, fragile, damn near impossible to glue properly to a painted model, and totally pointless to glue into place before priming. I replaced every single one of them with a $0.015 nail and consider it an improvement in every way.

I really like the way they look, haven't attempted to use them.

They're functionally gak and look like gak.

Worst of all possible options- they're huge, glaring and obvious chunks of shiny plastic stuck on a base, and have a tiny contact point that doesn't seem designed to actually match any surface on a corresponding miniature.

At least you could partially obscure or even hide the old ones on some models - the new ones are just a terrible arc of foreign material jammed on the back of a model that could have otherwise looked nice.
Anything that uses them should be pinned to a pile of rocks instead.

hate the things, fragile as a fragile thing where they connect, no way it seems to plug them in and unplug them for storage and transport which is a mortal sin itself never mind a small contact point on a fragile plastic

I think in general it’s just GW and flight stands.
Anyone that owns or has even seen an overlords ironclad on the table will know they aren’t reliable lol.
First thing I did with my old one when I got it was throw the stand away.

They are angled, so naturally the strength isn’t there.
It’s like a toothpick trying to support a large boulder lol.

now looks are a personal opinion, but they are non functional of that I am sure of. The people at my store agreeded for others to not use them. which is a very big thing, because normaly people here are strickt WYSIWYG.

I think they’re alright, had no trouble gluing them. They don’t look super good, but they never will. They are still a shiny piece of plastic on your base.

They seem more durable in my experience - but they're only carrying plastic. Models break off all the time, but it's pretty trivial to glue them back on, and the stand and model are generally both intact.

I broke dozens of the old style flight-stands when I ran 3 of the metal Fire Prisms in my list.

I remember the first time I tried to glue those fat flying Primaris dudes to them, I almost snapped one in frustration. Seeing the sisters with them too was not a happy surprise

What's wrong with a hole to just stick it in? Was that so hard?

this is another thing too, back in the day seriphium whre attached straight to their base, no need for fancy flight stick thingys etc.

this means that we can proably expect to see these suckers used on jump units going forward, such as a hypothetical future assault marine or raptor sculpt.

No, they look good but function poorly.

you only have options for liking it if it looks good and disliking it if it doesn't look good.

It does look better, but they function so poorly that I hate them, and it's a f***ing flight stand, I don't really care how it looks so long as it works.

Guardsmen, hear me! Cadia may lie in ruin, but her proud people do not! For each brother and sister who gave their lives to Him as martyrs, we will reap a vengeance fiftyfold! Cadia may be no more, but will never be forgotten; our foes shall tremble in fear at the name, for their doom shall come from the barrels of Cadian guns, fired by Cadian hands! Forward, for vengeance and retribution, in His name and the names of our fallen comrades!

I've only had to build one squad that used them (Custodes Venatari), I was so disgusted by the whole prospect of them that I built cork bases of about the right height to just glue the Venatari's feet onto them instead.

The new flight stand is a lot like eating bugs to survive, sometimes you may have to do it, but it really isn't ideal and kinda makes me feel ill.

I'm fine with how they look. I'm not fine with how they often work. So I'll replace them as I see fit with whatever I deem suitable.

I'll never use them. They are garbage cheap plastic, and completely unsuited to what they are meant to do. There are a half a dozen better ways to support a flying model without much extra work involved.

I think the only real reason I had so much trouble with the ones I've glued was because I used GW plastic glue. If/when they break off (again) I'll use super glue. Other than that they look more tasteful for infantry

In the previous poll, I voted I like them. I would like to formally take that opinion back.

They're terrible, and I'd rather go back to the prior ones that would stick up the model's backside.

It never ends well

The best solution I've seen to the debacle of the new flight stands that doesn't ruin flight stand or model, allows disassembly for transport, and doesn't risk plastic glue mulching the connection is to drill a small hole in both flight stand and model and glue a small length of wire into the flight stand. Magnets would also work better on Seraphim than on most of the other models that use the stand because they're skinnier/lighter.

Also, the peg-and-hole stands could be removed for transport.

yeah the local guy running my GW did that with his Seriphium and was showing me, I'm gonna go in sometime and get him to teach me how to do it myself

Yeah, but that implies I like them. I don’t. They look good, but no, I don’t like them because function outweighs form for me.
