Does anyone know if the gw ever considered a skavenish army in 40k. I always thought they were cool in WFB.

It would be nice for a chaos army to exist that isn’t CSM or deamons. I always felt like demons were developed enough just for 40k. If you want a sci fi element.

Does anyone have any example of the skaven units being converted to play as chaos cultist units?

Convert them to an entirely abhuman Guard regiment.

The dark behind the eyes.

I saw someone a while back suggest using Skaven as Genestealer Cutls and I think that could work quite well.

Patriarch - Verminlord
Magus - Grey Seer/Plague Priest/Warlock
Primus - Clawlord
Kelermorph - Deathmaster
Biophagus - Master Moulder
etc.

Yeah, when i read the small novel that is the Death Guard unit options and think about resolving the attacks from a melee-oriented min size death guard squad, the thing that springs to mind is "Accessible!"

You're not. If you're worried about your opponent using 'fake' rules, you're having fun the wrong way. This hobby isn't about rules. It's about buying Citadel miniatures.

I suppose that I should mention Mantic Game's "Veer-myn" here for completion's sake.
Smash those models together with some skaven and some sci fi bits and you'll have a pretty cool proxy army.

I have seen a lot of cool conversions making skavens a Dark Mechanicus

That’s cool are there any rules for dark mechanicus?

There’s another thread about OPR which is new to me but they provide their own army books and one is for rat men clans which is helpfully coincidental

Not in 40k, but just run them using the admech rules if you wanted to go down that route. GSC would have more of the ambushing/tricks angle, while AdMech would get you some weird and wacky artillery that fits, too (and would be perfect for a Skyre themed army, obviously). Both have some pretty straightforward "counts-as", so you've got room to go nuts.

I've also seen some skaven-as-IG that looked good, but I'd run them as GSC/AdMech, unless you're really looking to convert a bunch of armor up.

Gsc seem to make the most sense to me. Junker tech with ambush tactics. Rending claws and some poison/venom to boot. Sounds pretty ratty.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

It was along time ago but I saw a picture of a Skaven army used as Tyrinids, the most impressive conversion was a Hell Pit Abomination with skaven coming out of its guts used as a tervigon. I tried finding it but came up short.

If the argument for their uniqueness is spamming Wulfen and Thunderwolves, then it wasn't really a unique army to begin with whether you like it or not.
