This thread is basically one of utmost respect for Sir Christopher Lee.

A man that saw so much during his lifetime, yet remained an absolute gentleman throughout, that we can only hope to even vaguely approach his heights.

Yes, I’m a Brit. But this isn’t a simpleton claiming the glories of a fellow countryman as a source of pride.

This is intended as a genuine tribute to one of the greatest humans to ever walk the face of the earth.

He was nothing if not an inspiration. We will never likely match his achievements, but that’s no reason not to try. And yes, internet favourite Chuck Norris would’ve dropped to his knees in Sir Christopher’s presence. Because he actually did really horrible things off the silver screen.

Alas, his sociopolitical opinions, for me, put him firmly in donkey-cave legend column.

It’s rare I defend anyone’s politics other than my own, but he was a product of his age in that respect.

We cannot know how much was ‘stiff upper lip’, and how much was heartfelt.

I can't tell if you're mocking him, praising him or kind of both.
Partly because you're playing the pronoun game with that last sentence (about doing horrible things) after comparing him to Chuck Norris, but mostly because you can't be bothered to mention one laudable thing he's done, or how 'manliness' factors into anything at all, or why it would be 'ended.' And if that's even positive or negative.

Handwaving away his politics doesn't help any case that he's somehow anything positive other than a fairly successful actor.

He came up in conversation with my boys over the weekend, funnily enough. Was telling them about what an incredible life he had, and on looking him up to make sure I had my facts straight I just found more and more.

He was a veritable Renaissance man. Multilingual, total gentleman, all sorts of amazing things in his life. We’ll never see his like again.

I've not delved into the political things mentioned, so don't know specifics - but I don't think it's that surprising that someone born nearly a hundred years ago may have outdated / now inappropriate views on some stuff. My grandparents sure as hell did.
