My friend and I have read through the latest Psychic Awakening fiction - https://www.warhammer-community.com/2020/03/09/psychic-awakening-the-cleansing-light/ - and we're wondering what, exactly, the awakened being is.

It's roughly man-shaped. Mars itself insisted that it be locked away. It can, apparently, cleanse entire worlds, given enough time. It never seems to make a particular attempt to speak or communicate. Regular ol' run of the mill equipment surrounds its stasis, including damaged weaponry. It seems to be both radioactive and capable of injecting malicious code - but either the stasis chamber was made out of something that could contain it, or it only works when it's awake.

Is there anything else in the fluff like this? Any hints as to what it is? Or is this something new?

2k poorly optimized Necrons.
1k poorly assembled Sisters.

It seems to be some sort of 'super' Skitarii Vanguard (or a corrupted one). There's 'feral' servitors in the fluff that scream scrap-code, and radioactive mutants but I think this is new.

Besides the radioactive part...I think the Mechanicus have Doomguy.

I hope they come up with something more original than that (and this isn't just a throwaway story).

Radiant Wrath is just a single vanguard, although incredibly powerful. Imo they might be the character model for admech in psychic awakening, but with the amount of new models admech are already getting that's just wishful thinking.

Why was Sly Marbo in a Sarcophagus?

On a more serious note, it sounded more like Dark Mech to me than Necrons.
Apparently GW wants to introduce more sub factions than update existing ones. Which is something I don't agree with, especially when I collect the army they seem to love to ignore, but I digress.

I'm thinking that it is some sort of pimped out vanguard prime(or higher rank). it might be interesting in how they implement rules for them.

The Ad Mech sure could use another non-Unique HQ choice.
In my opinion, every faction should have access to at least 3 non-unique HQ choices. That should give a fair number of possible list combination.
Right now its just dominus and Cawl.
Which means that a battalion will always have either 2 Dominus or 1 Dominus and 1 Cawl. And that's no fun.
If a Vanguard Prime were introduced as a new HQ choice, the options would then be 2 Dominus, 1 Dominus and 1 Cawl, 2 Primes, 1 Prime and 1 Dominus, 1 Prime and 1 Cawl.
Just by adding one HQ choice you get more than double the number of permutations, and that's good.

It could be the "man of Iron" AI they released during the Heresy, last time they let it go it went straight after any and all chaos systems like it knew what it was and purged them then took control of a titan to "purge" a force of attacking Dark mechanicum.

There's the Enginseer and Manipulus, plus the named character Daedalosus (although those last two are hard to get).

If the named character is the BSF: Escalation guy, I doubt he'll get a wider release - but the Manipulus should, especially now the Kelermorph is out.

I'll be surprised if he doesn't come out alongside Engine War.

He is. I've seen loads of kit-bashes of him, but people get funny about things like that.

I stand corrected then.
Another HQ choice would still be nice though.
