Oldcrons. Creeping, eldritch horror from before the Necrons had a personality. An invincible, cthuloid menace of mystery, whispered to be the slaves of star gods.

BUT BEFORE THAT there was a time when Necrons were completely shrouded in mystery. When nothing was known of them, and the C'tan were known only for their Phase Sword. The time of the Assault on Sanctuary 101. The time of free metal miniatures on the cover of White Dwarf.

The time of these guys.

Necrons were my first 40k army, by the simple expedient of begging, borrowing and in the case of true desperation, buying any that were kicking about in my local wargames club, plus some stuff from mail order and a bunch of Chaos Androids. I played... two games with them? Well, they're back. As a kill team. This time they're painted.

Centre below is the first Necron I ever owned. The paint job is original with very minor touchups, from about the year 2000.

The Immortals

Really Oldcrons didn't have a Deathmark. So I made one!

Hope you like them, I tried out some new techniques (OSL, crackle medium for the bases to look like baked mud).

Really fun! I love it when people show off out of print models in their collection. Yours look great.

The OSL on the immortals is particularly good, I think the purple (on the right) one pulled it off the best.

Thanks! Yes, the purple has enough of a kick to give a real glow effect.

Nice! I have an entire army of the old models, from before the plastics ever came out.

If you started a Nostalgiacron Painting Blog I would follow it! I'd love to see an army's worth of those guys.
