How do?
So, I’m writing a pub quiz for my local! How exciting!
One of the rounds is a music round. Having mulled it over for a while, I think I’m gonna go with a Theme Music, erm....theme.
TV or Film is fine. I’ve got a few ideas, based on shows I’ve watched. But they’re all much of a muchness. So I’m hoping my fellow Dakkanauts can throw in some suggestions.
Now, the round works by playing the intro. So nothing too short before the answer is in the question (such as Transformers).
I’m open to all eras. And any kind of show. The whole reason I’m asking is that as said, my taste is relatively narrow, being predominately sci-fi in nature. But, I don’t want them too recognisable. If possible, I’d like themes which should be recognisable, but easily confused with another show.
Example? The opening theme for Bonanza and High Chapparal. Both frankly excellent pieces, but when people have had a few, it’s easy to put down the wrong answer that was an educated guess. Last thing a pub quiz needs is leaving people scratching their heads.
I’d also like to ask for direct YouTube links, as I can use them to create a playlist, note down the intro timings, and go from there. Just, please, for the sake of loading times, either just pop in the link, or use spoiler tags.
Thankyouplease thank you in advance

Personally, I get the themes to 'University Challenge' and 'Only Connect' mixed up all the time, but that might just be because I don't watch them enough - I'm only exposed to the themes from a too-loud TV in the other room People of a certain age might know instantly, others of a lower age might not know either of them. Just in case you want/need the links:

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

The Theme for the true blood series is a good one, great song. I didn't like the series but y'know...great theme song.

Ancient Lady, by Richard Hawley is a great track and the theme song to The TV series Getting On, which never got very popular so not a bad one.

Should’ve added for non-Brits, recommend away and I’ll worry about whether it mainstream aired on our blighted isle!

Are those too mainstream or do you need more obscure tracks?

The wire, family guy, the Simpsons, peaky blinders.. The list is practically infinite. Most shows, especially nowadays make a conscious effort to have a memorable score.

Oh what about the theme to Monk - the original one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cml6-InI2-U
before they changed it (oddly after their original theme then won several awards! )

Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Both the theme song and the Musical Episode (ask for its title maybe? I think it's Once more, with Feeling), would be good entries methinks.
And you simply must add Blackadder and/or 'Allo, 'Allo.

I think The Sweeney could be a good one, the theme tune is pretty unique but the show isn't so popular nowadays that everyone would get it immediately I reckon?

Of all the races of the universe the Squats have the longest memories and the shortest tempers. They are uncouth, unpredictably violent, and frequently drunk. Overall, I'm glad they're on our side!
