Changing Our Legion's Name

Hi all, so I just recently purchased Tabletop Simulator on Steam and downloaded a few mods for it, including the Chaos Space Marines and Corvus Cabal for Warcry (as well as Corvus Belli Infinity).
I've had a little play around with the program but not really played anything yet or know the best way to set up a table

Anyone here play any Warhammer, or Infinity or anything really? Maybe give me a run down on what mods I should get, how to set up a game, and/or maybe even have a few games?

Cheers guys!

Moved this to general discussion as you ask about more than just 40k and that way everyone can join in!

For 40k I use this - https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1826518457&searchtext=warhammer%2040k&fbclid=IwAR1Zvd1Dfh6sUEyc2v2ZrFwdBPxIC0LQdIFyy3o7DVo_LRMgl5nCcAvnq6I

But it is not the best and would love to hear if anyone has better options.

For FFG games the X-Wing Unified 2.0 module is fantastic, the Legion one gets a bit of getting used to and I have heard that the Armada one is good.

For any game I would highly recommend that one uses a mouse with wheel as it makes life so much easier, when playing games remember to "lock" things onto the table (hover cursor over it and press L) and have the rules for the game open next to you. Many/most games will have the ability to access the rules built in but it is far easier and quicker to check an actual source than it is in game.

If anyone fancies a game of X-Wing or Legion then feel free to flick me a PM and we can see if we can arrange something.

Honestly, as discussed in another thread...what's the purpose of playing a game of Warhammer via TTS? Warhammer isn't a particularly well written rule-set. Would be far easier to simply play a competent PC game, etc.

Seems like going out of your way to try to play a mediocre game...and now lacking the social and painted model aspects of it completely.

Yeah its bizarre how some people like different things and want to continue playing them when it is not possible/advisable to do so face to face. Who would have thought it, eh?

Serious answer? A lot of the social aspect is still there in terms of playing a game with another human especially if you are using voice chat via discord. Beer and pretzel games are even easier to arrange if neither of you have to drive or transport an army. You can carry dozens of lists when it takes 30 seconds to pull up a list on battlescribe and load 2k points of models so power matching randoms is easier. Pay2Win isn't a thing and EVERY army is painted. Dice rollers that auto-roll and count drastically speed things up too. Digital resources are popular for codices too since they can be pulled up and browsed via a second monitor.

Personally, I find TTS to be faster and easier, but it doesn't have as much of the rewarding tactile sensation that 40k has. Playing an army I didn't personally paint doesn't have the same feel, but it's close enough.

Well I haven't tried it for warhammer but Over the weekend I played good old Heroquest with my friends. Its fun but takes getting used to.

I'm going to see how it works for Warhammer with one of my buddies.

Do you have a link to the module you use for Heroquest? Would be keen to get some games in!

Here you go! It has everything. Kellar's Keep, Return of the Witch King as well as Against the Ogre Horde, Wizards of Morcar and the Elf and Barbarian Quest pack. You can choose to play using the American or UK rules too. There's even a fan made expansion as well.

The thing is there's probably less competent PC Warhammer games, and I've played just about every good one. I'm at the point now I'm playing Xcom 2 with Warhammer mods, which is a lot of fun btw
But I'm craving just a good old game of 40k
And with a lot of the local hobby stores closed now it's hard to find a proper game
I had a falling out with a friend of mine who I played regular Warhammer of all forms with, so I'm craving some dice rolling and maybe during this time a simulated format will just have to do

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I know it doesn't have the same satisfaction of playing with actual models. I'd love to actually use those I've converted and painted myself, it's still something, and why limit myself when I could play with anyone around the world?

Haven't played online games with that but on vassal used to play warmachine and call to arms babylon 5. Found it worked nicely for skirmish game and very well for game like b5 where each model was it's own model and top of that models moved in direct line with limited amount of turning.

How does tabletop simulator compare with vassal? Anybody can give some comparison?

I'll have to look into this Vassal too, never heard of it.
I'd even be down to play some Kill Team or Warcry on Tabletop Simulator too, I enjoy a good skirmish game, and they seem like theyd work better on a simulator than say a 2000pt game of 40K

I play a lot of B5 on Vassal, small world...

I find that Vassal is a lot clunkier than TTS generally but it all depends on how well the modules are written, for X-Wing I find TTS a lot quicker to use and far more accessible (as well as a lot prettier) but both systems require quite a bit of playing around with to get familiar. I think overall I would say TTS is better and takes less effort but it doesn't have an ACTA mod that I have seen so that is terrible.

I'm working on a Conquest mod (fantasy wargame from Para Bellum). The creators gave me the green light to scan in models.

Hmm. I think I need to get my mitts on Tabletop Simulator.

I may have to give this a try myself.

"Because the Wolves kill cleanly, and we do not. They also kill quickly, and we have never done that, either. They fight, they win, and they stalk back to their ships with their tails held high. If they were ever ordered to destroy another Legion, they would do it by hurling warrior against warrior, seeking to grind their enemies down with the admirable delusions of the 'noble savage'. If we were ever ordered to assault another Legion, we would virus bomb their recruitment worlds; slaughter their serfs and slaves; poison their gene-seed repositories and spend the next dozen decades watching them die slow, humiliating deaths. Night after night, raid after raid, we'd overwhelm stragglers from their fleets and bleach their skulls to hang from our armour, until none remained. But that isn't the quick execution the Emperor needs, is it? The Wolves go for the throat. We go for the eyes. Then the tongue. Then the hands. Then the feet. Then we skin the crippled remains, and offer it up as an example to any still bearing witness. The Wolves were warriors before they became soldiers. We were murderers first, last, and always!" —Jago Sevatarion

Meh, I got it full price, but it's only $20 or so full price. Now I just need to figure out how to get my Titanomachina game onto it.

This tutorial video out of their official tutorials should help...

If you have .obj files of your Titanomachina, you're a good way there.

Yeah I had initially though about doing that as I have Hero Quest and two of the expansions. But then my friend recommend Tabletop Simulator and since it has everything I stuck with that.
