Hello insomnia my old friend, it's not good to hear from you again.

Is anyone else here having issues with insomnia or their sleeping just going all over the place? You know, getting up after like 3 hours sleep, being up for a while then sleeping another 3-4 hour block? Or just drifting into a pattern where you don;t get up till noon or afternoon because of this quarantine thing?

I started painting some minis a while back and ended up staying at it till like 5AM them sleeping till like 2pm. This isolation quarantine thing is messing with me in more ways than one. Anyone else having this experience?

Plus I'm sure my cat likes to crawl in bed and cast sleep spells on me to lay beside me while i'm out.

Man if this ever ends I'm gonna have a hell of time getting back to anything like normal sleeping.

What's your work situation at the moment? If you're currently not working, or your work patterns have been affected by the current pandemic it may be that your body clock is out of sync with your normal routine. I find the same thing can happen if I'm off work for any more than a week or so as I start going to bed later and later but then annoying things like daylight start waking me up, resulting in not enough sleep but also disrupted sleep patterns that annoyingly stop me getting to sleep easily.

TLDR: maybe it's a routine issue?

A few things to consider:

1) Set yourself up a routine and stick to it. Even in lockdown you can still get out of bed on time, get into bed on time and fill your day with activities. The key is giving yourself clear targets and sticking to them. Use an alarm to get out of bed etc...
This includes going to be at a set time. Don't let yourself get lulled into hobbying till 5am because you don't have to be up early tomorrow - you DO for your routine!

2) Exercise. Even though you're trapped indoors you can still do a lot of exercise. Charles Bronson became a world record holding powerman and he was in solitary confinement for most of his training (ergo he quite literally had nothing). He even wrote a book on how to exercise in one room.
This should help you burn off energy which can help you maintain a normal sleeping pattern if you're otherwise not really doing much save walking from one room to the next every so often.

3) Worry and concern can interrupt sleep and whilst you might not be panicking, the current situation puts many people under stress. This can be a problem, however I think that there's two layers. Interrupted sleep can be a symptom, but if you then worry about that you're adding worry to the worry and building it up.

Instead remember that you've a routine to stick too, but that its not the end of the world if you don't. If your sleep is interrupted don't stress about it (that's already woken you up). Also note that the whole idea of being awake in one block then asleep in one block isn't actually natural - most species would nap and rest in bursts through the day. With less routine and pressure on you chances are your body is simply slipping into a more "natural" rhythm. Plus with potentially less exercise to burn off energy you don't need as much sleep and recovery time in one big go.

4) Be sure to appease your feline overlord so that the sleep spells stop being cast. A laser pointer/ a bit of string etc... can all be fantastic toys to engage and play with for a good while to tire your feline friend out and give you some engagement and - thus avoid feline sleep spells being cast on you

I had a son last month. I’d welcome sleep in 3-4hr blocks.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.
