Am i the only one playing this? I beat chapter 1 and finshed the first part of chapter 2 on 2nd hardest difficulty. The first boss fight was the only time somebody on my team was killed and since it was Gabe Diaz I had to restart.

I'm enjoying this and they seem to allow you to use a couple enemy weapons when you kill an enemy like the boom shot. According to achievements they seem to allow the torque bow as well. It's only a limited use pickup though with the boom shot and once ammo is out you drop it automatically. You also seem to be able to drop it even before you run out of ammo but not sure if it stays on the ground. The boomers have a crap ton of health. Anybody that hates locusts with shotguns has no idea what these dudes are like. The best methods seem to be to end turn out of line of sight and focus them down with the whole squad.

Anyway if you enjoy gears and turn based strategy games you should get it. My only problem so far is lack of weapon diversity (hammer of dawn, mortars and similar would be awesome) and a little more enemy diversity would be nice too but it's only early chapter 2 so maybe that will change (counting the brutal maybe 6 enemy types so far and 3 are drones). I only had my first crashed game today which is a lot better than all the bugs xcom has. For personal preference I'd still probably rate xcom 2 on top, gears tactics next and then xcom chimera squad.

I'm skipping this console generation and my PC aspires someday to potato status so haven't played it but have been following the news and the reviews I've watched seem generally positive. I've actually started replaying XCOM Enemy Within on my old 360 because of it since I can't play it. I enjoy the genre and am glad that it has continued.

I'm very much enjoying the game. I hear the negative reviews mostly came from some xbox internet thing but if it doesn't effect you the game is generally awesome. Some enemies require you to check some of their special status effects and abilities but in time I'm sure people will figure them out. I feel like I prefer some builds but others could also be valid. There seems to be many more class builds than xcom games. Gear generally has it's own ability modifiers or some nice little effect (keep in mind the first tier of gear is mostly garbage, blue is ok and yellow and purple are must haves). That said some gear is better for certain class builds so keep that in mind. Each mission has optional objectives you can complete for more gear and some positive or negative mission specific modifiers (similar to dark events from xcom 2 but mission specific).

Personally I really enjoy it. It's gritty and satisfying. I'm not sure if the story fits the universe since I only played gears 1, 2 and 3 (probably for the best).

My only issues with the game personally so far (I finished act 3 chapter 1) is I'd like more weapon and grenade types. Basically I think it's the same issue I had with xcom enemy unknown. Everything is great I just want more of everything which isn't really a bad thing to have. More weapon types might be nice. Maybe combine the vanguard class and support class and instead have a mortar class for some explosive nastiness. Give us a hammer of dawn laser designator as a special ability with a big cool down. The only other issue I have is when you scroll between armor types the armor shown on character changes so fast that when I'm searching for special abilities per wargear item it actually hurts my eyes watching all the armor changes.

Besides that the game is really good. I don't think this game has any serious issues that xcom doesn't also have and gears has no bugs except like a couple crashes so far and that's mostly if you run gears tactics in the background while doing other applications. Considering all the bugs xcom 2 has this is a huge positive for gears tactics.

Once I have a PC capable of running it, I will buy it. The game looks ace, and is exactly the kind of turn-based thing I like.

I updated my thoughts on the game so far in the 'what are you playing now' thread. Im not sure if the game is less fun to me now or if it's just family being here prevents me from enjoying myself in peace. That said the gear cycling is taking much more time than id like before mission prep. Perhaps certain auto equip options for different equipment loadouts would be good. Yeah I still say weapon variety could be a little better and later on side missions are 5 types. To be entirely fair xcom doesn't do this much better in any of its games and enemy unknown had way more issues than this. So to be fair my biggest issue is left to lots of gear to cycle through.

Played Gears 5 a little while ago, enjoyed it much better than 4, there was less of a void inbetween the two games' plots which you needed to fill in the gaps yourself.

Enemies were starting to get a bit tiresome however, it just seemed constant waves of Swarm and Scions. There were a couple of annoying parts in the campaign in which a checkpoint occurred just before the enemies spawned, meaning you had no time to really prepare yourself. Snatchers however, I possibly consider one of the worst enemies (in game design terms) I've ever come across in any game. Ever.

In terms of weapons, I agree that it was all just a bit samey, I played probably around 90% of the campaign using just the Lancer and Markaza. When you came across other weapons you usually didn't really get enough ammo to justify swapping it out.

Spoiler:
The Matriarch fight was just irritating however, as were all the boss fights. Seriously, they were just scripted actions combined with "Shoot the glowing bits".

Actually this is about the gears tactics game which is turn based strategy in the gears universe. It's not gears 1 through 5.
