(mods have my permission to beat me with sticks if this is the wrong sub-board)

Looking at getting some stuff second hand, and negotiating prices RN. Something I want to buy has this book? Booklet? Flyer? thrown in. I was wondering if it's anything interesting/worth having.
The name (ミニチュアバトルゲームの世界) translated (roughly. Japanese is hard and I am stupid) is The World of Miniature Battle Games. It's from before my time, but maybe it was released (if it isn't just a pamphlet of no real interest) under a different name in the Anglosphere? Anyone able to tell me what it is?

Cheers!

I doubt it. Looks like a showcase magazine of old models. I’d suggest putting this thread in the general forum though, not the background one. On a side note I used to live in Japan and I get a bit interested in the translation. I guess they didn’t want to try to sell it on lore. The miniature collection scene is a far more competitive environment there. With al the gundams, trains and whatnot.

His pattern of returning alive after being declared dead occurred often enough during Cain's career that the Munitorum made a special ruling that Ciaphas Cain is to never be considered dead, despite evidence to the contrary.

Some guesses:

Hard to tell, but does the main picture look like the contents of Assault on Black Reach to you? That would help date this.

I suspect it’s one of those overview of the hobby/factions booklets, based on the name. That’s just a guess.

I wasn't around for Black Reach, but, the photo is the same, for sure. Might just ask the seller how many pages it is. Was hoping it might be one of those big books filled with pictures of studio armies in cool poses etc.

Looks like AOBR, LOTR and Fantasy. Dates it to around 2008, 5th edition.

OP, possible to post a shot of an interior page or two?

'Fraid not techsoldaten, this is the only image from the seller. I'm about to just straight up ask how many pages it is.

...does this mean, we don't know what this is, boys?

Looks like GW's introduction booklet to their games. Might have been just for Japan. And your translation was correct.

I actually think I remember something like that from the mid 2000's (2006ish?), it's very fuzzy but IIRC it was basically a sales pitch for each game system with description, lore, and model showcase. Not quite a catalog cause you couldn't order anything, but more of a "hey this stuff is cool and you might like it!".
GW also used to do paper catalogs annually as well, so it's possible it's one of those OR an early Japanese version of "How to paint Citadel Miniatures".

Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.

IIRC, GW about that time produced "Catalog/Painting/showcase" books with all the studio armies in them. Of course, back then, the line wasn't nearly as big as it is today.

on the forum. Obviously

Does it not have a date on it?
Most books have a date of publication printed on one of the pages in the front or back of the book.

Under the couch

It's just a promotional pamphlet, with a bit of a summary of what miniature wargames are about, and pics of some of GW's games.

Likely yes but unless OP asks seller he can't see it. Book isnt' in hands of the OP. Rather he is staring at the picture shown in first post.
