Subject: Black templars, parts, alternative colors and conversions?

Ok so im wanting to do black templars as an army, or a force styled off of the templars (so i can codex hop if i need to)
Now, im not too keen on the primaris head style they use, i was wondering if they are compatable with 'standard' marine heads and shoulders.
I also have looked into 'custom' parts by puppetswar and Kromlech, would head crests on all marines be too much? Save them only for seargeants/captains
And finally, an alternative color scheme? I was envisioning using the standard black and white but with gold trims and giving seargeants different color helms (like red)

I don't have any Primaris Marines yet so I can't be sure, but from what I've seen and read their body size and stature is a bit larger than regular marines right now. Swapping parts shouldn't be too much of an issue, but heads will likely look somewhat small and off compared to the rest of the model. As I've said though, I don't own any Primaris so I can't be sure. Kromlech Legionaries may be a good choice as I'm sure you've seen, but they may also be to scale with normal marines which would cause the same minor visual problem. If you just want to do a normal marine Templar army, then yes, any normal marine heads will. All previous sculpt SM and CSM parts are interchangeable, including heads. I know this because I am a CSM player with a box of SW that I will be kit bashing with them. I never got around to building them, but the parts are all the same size and fit.

Have to be black and white and you can throw red or yellow (Successors of Imperial Fists) in there. They don't have traditional fighting companies like other space marines so there's not much variation for this faction.
Primaris are like the easy-to-paint kids version of space marines IMO

Are you planning to use this in official tournaments or just in friendly games? This is always the first question you should ask yourself. If you want to use it in officially sanctioned and run tournaments, then you should try to get in contact with a tournament official that can help determine it for you. Obviously each is entitled to their own opinion, so what passes for one may not for another. That's just a risk you'll have to accept if you want to officially play a successor chapter to one with unique rules. There are likely even people here who run tournaments that would gladly help you. Heck, some tournaments only require that your models be painted with a minimum of three colors on each model. They don't even care if it's just stripes on the base. But if all that you want out of your army is to have fun and play with friends, do whatever you want because in the end it's a paintjob and it shouldn't matter between friends. On that note, I think what you have there looks perfectly fine for use as a Black Templars successor chapter even for official use. All you've really done is decide you like gold trim and a little splash of red. Looks good to me, especially if you reserve the red helms for veterans and/or elites.
