Apologies if this has already been asked and answered, I looked but could find it.

The new Primaris Bladeguard Veterans are identified as 1st Company Veterans in the WH community page, but they’ve been painted with gold trim on the pauldrons (2nd company colours) instead of white trim (1st company colours).

Has this been explained anywhere that I missed or is it a mistake?

White and gold are often used as accent colors on Ultras, regardless of company.

Slapping gold bling on guys is a classic way to show importance, and white is our classic secondary color.

Probably just the painters doing what they think looks cool. I’d not read too much into it.

I thought it might be something like that. I’m a bit disappointed. Sternguard veterans and other 1st company units have white trim in the official artwork. Seems a bit slack tbh.

Could be an accent colour preference, they might be 1st Company Vets attached to the 2nd, and took on their heraldry?

A while ago, with the launch of the fancy Ultra Veterans honor guard their trim was introduced as gold.

While 1st is still white and 2nd is still gold, gold is now in the mixvfor special units too.

I'm going with this since that's now how Reserve Company units attached to Battle Companies work since 8th started.

All marines are trained in Phobos armor as Scouts, so the Company squads are either wearing Phobos armor for that particular mission, or they are taken from the 10th Company Vanguard and just happen to be wearing company colors for that particular mission, or they can stay as 10th Company and have no company markings.

From what I gather.

Squads (from a reserve company, veteran company etc) attached to another company can use the company markings of the company they are attached to. **cough** company **cough**

This came about IRL so that players can have a more unified look if wanted.

This apparently came from Roboute Guillimans codex reforms. The same one that allowed companies to also now allow up to 20 squads, using 5 man squads but still limiting to ~100 marines.

Edit: The Primaris Bladeguard Veterans must attached to the 2nd company. That is why they have yellow/gold trim instead of their normal white/silver.
