Seems to be a sort of MP type of characters crossed with a military judge. Or a space marines version of a comissar. They seemed to have had those in some chapters before the heresy. In those chapters that had problems with discipline and which required a lot of executions post battle.

If you have to kill, then kill in the best manner. If you slaughter, then slaughter in the best manner. Let one of you sharpen his knife so his animal feels no pain. |

From the way he's been described it looks like a loyalist version of the Master of Executions.
I wouldn't expect an exact copy/paste though, maybe more like comparing Centurions to Oblitorators.

My guess is that he’s going to be closer to a company/chapter champion than anything else.
Maybe a dash of chaplain for flavor.

I'd say he looks like a chaplain geared for melee. They did say he had a fancy relic blade as well. I think he's interesting but I wish he had a skull helmet instead of whatever that is
And they said his flat top sword is for executions so he's most likely a character fighter

There are some nice ones in the reiver kit. Headswaps are easy, planning one myself. Automatically Appended Next Post: Kanluwen wrote:He's a pseudo-Emperor's Champion, from the way the descriptions were going on Tuesday.
When the Emp Champ. was first released back in 3rd, they mentioned that he was not exclusive to the BT, but that many chapters maintained the position/title.

Unless it has been retconned, wearing black is a sign that the marine serve the Emperor directly. This is from the first short story about the Emperor's Champion from White Dwarf 245. It was during the Battle of Terra with Sigismund, the first Emperor's Champion. He was hesitant about obscuring the colors of the legion.
'Fear not Brother Sigismund, Dorn himself ordered it to be so. Your heraldry has been changed to black to show that you serve the Emperor himself directly, as do myself and my fellow chaplains. As such you are marked out in the sight of the Emperor.'
From what I have read the Judiciar sounds very similar to the Master of Executions in CSM. I think the guess of a pseudo-Emperor's Champion is a good assumption.

In reality it would really be just another version of a Chapter/Company Champ. I'm a little annoyed that a new model with essentially the same role is being made. That said, it IS a gorgeous model and easily one of the best blinged Marines GW has done recently.

This is the thought I can't get out of my head when looking at the image.
The model also seems at odds with the usual marine style.

Expect similar rules as the master of executions, except better, because SM.

Probably. But if he doesn't get some form of deep strike or mobility from a jump pack or something he'll be just as useless.

I’d argue that while he is at odd with the current marine style, he is not at odds with the usual.
Marines are broadly 3 categories.
The clean and sleek, more polished looking primaris
The pouch and gear laden phobos (and some classic guys like scouts)
The blinged up baroque warrior monks (chaplains, a lot of HQs, vets)
While the new box has some of the first, it’s also bringing the 3rd back into the range. Not just the Judicair, but the vets and HQs.

The Judiciar probably fulfills the same role as Astrorath does in the Blood Angels: He takes care of the "bad Space Marines" in the chapter.

Union rules, you know. Cawl negotiated a headroom standard on behalf of the Primaris Marines that was incompatible with any of the existing vehicles.

Both these statements are true.
He’s the kind of guy who should be charging down an assault ramp, singing praises to the Emperor, while cutting through his foes like wheat.
But Primaris can’t ride in Land Raiders. And Repulsors don’t have quite the same flavor as transports.
It’s an issue.

Its only a theoretical issue. No one plays land raiders. The judiciar should be in an impulsor, which allows disembarking after the transport has moved.

I would think Judiciar is based off the word we use that is basically that word for a Judge/police.

Space marines did used to have military police. But that was back in RT where they were all brain wiped psychopaths.

My thoughts are he is probably a new kind of Chaplain. Whereas the standard Chaplain is about preaching to the faithful, this dude is about purging the faithless. I've spoken about him with my GW store manager (who doesn't know more than I do) but our best guess would be that he's a "character seeking missile." Really excited to get my hands on his rules and get him on the table.

They had them pre heresy too, at least in the books I read. They were going on an executing whole squads of space wolfs that went rogue post battle, before Russ joined his legion. Other legions had them too, but Space Wolfs had the most.

Cool. I didn’t know if they made the cut into the modern fluff. Building/painting one up has been on my back burner list of things to do for a while now. Probably played as either a company vet sarge or a Lt.
