Hi everyone,

Could people recommend some simple 500 point 40k armies, something that’s easy to play rule wise and doesn’t require too much thought.

The reason I ask is that at my local club we have a small issue where we have people come along for a day to check out the club but don’t either have an army or forget to bring an army to play with, so i had the idea of some simple 500 point armies that could be put in a box and pulled out when someone new comes along to have a quick game rather than just watch everyone else.

Imagine it from your own perspective as a new player, what would you do that’s quick and easy and doesn’t require you to bring a codex or much thought so you can just have some fun

A primaris cpt
2x5 intercessors
1x3 elimintors
1x5 reavers or some other melee unit.

It should be close to 500pts.

If you have to kill, then kill in the best manner. If you slaughter, then slaughter in the best manner. Let one of you sharpen his knife so his animal feels no pain.

Easy, brainless, and cheap would be Custodes.

Supreme Detachment
3x Shield Captains on Dawneagle

Total army cost in models: $60

Automatically Appended Next Post:
If you want a real army for newer players. Really should be be SM, 3 Tacs, 2 HQ's and a heavy or Fast to give something cool, maybe a transport too.

A less sarcastic implementation might be a Shield-Captain, a Vexilla, and a squad of five Guard, but that is $120.

Balanced Game: Noun. A game in which all options and choices are worth using.

I'd say, wait for 9th Edition so that you can see the Combat Patrol rules and then build a variety of armies for that. Concentrate on basic units with a minimum of special rules to make gameplay easy for the players. The various Start Collecting boxes would probably be a good first step in the army builds.

There was a thread not that long ago over in the tactica section:

I think there was another similar one over in the list building section.

My suggestion was for Space Marines was:

Ultramarine Patrol

Captain in Gravis Armor
Boltstorm gauntlet, Master-crafted power sword

Intercessor Squad x6
Bolt rifles

Inceptor Squad x3

Hellblaster Squad x5
Plasma incinerators

Little bit of everything, good sample of marines, and can be assembled from the DI box.

This is about 500 of Kabalites, and I don't think it's too bad for the points:

  • Archon with Blast Pistol and Huskblade

  • Archon with Blast Pistol and Huskblade

  • x5 Kabalite Warriors (one with Blaster)

  • x5 Kabalite Warriors (one with Blaster)

  • x5 Kabalite Warriors (one with Blaster)

  • Raider

  • Venom

Guardsmen, hear me! Cadia may lie in ruin, but her proud people do not! For each brother and sister who gave their lives to Him as martyrs, we will reap a vengeance fiftyfold! Cadia may be no more, but will never be forgotten; our foes shall tremble in fear at the name, for their doom shall come from the barrels of Cadian guns, fired by Cadian hands! Forward, for vengeance and retribution, in His name and the names of our fallen comrades!

    Hi, Supershandy.

Chiming in for Harlequins, and going by the rule of thumb that 25 power points is about 500 points...

    1 Shadowseer
    1 Troupe Master
    7 Players
    1 Void Weaver

...wargear can roughly stretch to 500 points. Or just three boxes of Troupes, which about 2 Masters and 16 Players.

Casual gaming, mostly solo-coop these days.
