Just noticed this solo-coop game up for preorder and thought I'd ask for others opinions.

Looks like a budget Space Hulk and apparently there is a "Get away from her you b***h" expansion in the works which will add the Queen and Ripley's power loader.

Did a search but couldn't find an existing thread.

I think it has been on pre-order for over a year now, at least at Miniature Market. GF9 seem to have problems with time to market, and I don't think there has been much advertising or convention demos on this game.

Ah, I see.

Yes, I only found one convention demo for the game on Youtube, and that seemed to be a very rough prototype. Do GF9 produce good games in general?

Their Facebook thread is a lengthy mess or "Where's my stuff?!?" posts.
I have Zombicide in this theme, and I would love an Aliens game, but these games can become huge.

The GF9 games I have played are ambitious, sometimes fun, don’t always quite work, and inevitably have breezy rule books that leave issues underaddressed if not unaddressed.

Given that, I might just hold off until its released and there are some reviews.

Cheers.

Wise choice -- and hope you don't have any issues that require product support. I had a horrific
customer service experience with BF / GF9.

Ah, the Prodos AVP. Apparently they have the rights to Space Crusade but still haven't done much with it. Grrrrrr!

BF typically has good customer service, and every story I've heard about problems with them has them resolving the issues very quickly.

I can't speak for GF9, though, as I've never heard from anyone who had to deal with their products specifically as opposed to BF stuff.

Spartacus: Blood on the Sands is an outrageously fun boardgame, ideal for a group of 4 on a Friday evening, for when we are able to do that kind of thing

Everything that I've heard and experienced witu GF9 games is that they're very good at capturing the essence of the licensed IP.

It was battlefront CS who let me down. After a totally dismissive email exchange regarding poor quality / defective Battlefield in a Box terrain, the experience with their staff at Adepticon was even worse.
Regardless it was the Flames of War group on Facebook that encouraged me to contact BF when they saw my pics, so I know they are capable of decent service -- but it did not pan out that way for me.

I received an email from GF9 today, looks like it is targeting an October 2020 release, with two expansions “late 2020”. From the email:

“We at Gale Force Nine have been waiting a long time to give you this information, and we are now proud to say that the complete Aliens Boardgame experience will all be released this year, 2020, starting with the core game in Aliens: Another Glorious Day In The Corps
- Play iconic characters
- Recreate awesome scenes from the movie
- Quick and easy rules
- Dynamic co-op gameplay
- And all the Aliens you can kill!

Two expansions will follow later this year, adding to the experience with new characters, missions, and game mechanics.

Aliens: Ultimate Badasses
- Increase your Fireteam with six new Characters
- Gain Experience cards to give your Characters new abilities.

Aliens: Get Away From Her, You B***h!
- Play as the Alien Hive
- New campaign missions and locations from the movie
- Recreate the epic duel between Ripley and the Alien Queen.

We'll be rolling out more details about these releases in the coming months, including video content looking at game mechanics, and detailed looks at the miniatures.

Stay tuned to the GF9 website for more details!”

Not sure if anyone will see this but I hope so because the issue is kinda driving me crazy.

My confusion is:

-Where is Newt? Why do adverts for the game now only show 6 miniatures, but still seven character cards? What happened? Why does the official GF9 online store still show Newt as part of the game but everywhere else miss her out?

-In the Queen expansion, where are the miniatures of Ripley carrying Newt, Bishop, and damaged Bishop? Why does every online retailer website now only show the Queen and Ripley/Powerloader miniatures, but the GF9 website and online store still show all five minis on the box?

I really, REALLY want to preorder this game and the expansions from a UK retailer before they sell out, but there's no way I can do that now if Newt only comes in certain copies of the game (e.g. only from the USA). The entire point I was excited for this game was due to the Newt, Bishop, Burke and Drake miniatures filling in the gaps that the AVP Prodos never got around to creating. If this game now has no Newt or Bishop then there's no point. :(

Is there any way to ask GF9 for clarification? It makes a huge difference if the Queen expansion has 2 or 5 minis, especially when two of the extras are Burke and Riple/Newt!

There is a pretty interesting write-up over on BGG if you have the time to read through it
https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/2252495/gen-con-2019-demo-play-through-review

Not particularly promising.. but then you read about scenarios of Newt being stuck in the med-bay with the marines trying to rescue her and Ripley from the face huggers and damn it sounds awesome, or could be if the rules are well written.

Wayland Games have it for 20% off (£39.95) and a pending release date of end of September, although who knows what that is based upon?

Yeah and they also have Newt missing from the main game, plus only two minis now in the Queen expansion. Where are Newt, Bishop, Ripley carrying Newt, etc? :O

Wayland Games was going to be where I preordered, but I'm not taking the risk if GF9 has removed the Newt mini - especially if there are other versions of the board game that include her!

That's really understandable - the Newt mini is one of the coolest in the set !

Reading that thread it sounds like the Disney takeover of 20th C Fox has had some impact. They say Disney are worse than Fox (who were bad enough, if Prodos were to be believed re. the AvP game) with regards to giving approval, although the makers of that Marvel Crisis Protocol seem to have no problem pumping out release after release, so who knows?

Weird. I ordered some Battlefield in a Box terrain from a third party. It arrived damaged.

I contacted GF9. They asked me to provide photos of the damage. Upon receiving the photos they immediately sent out replacements. Double replacements actually. Ended up with 3 times my original order. This was in April this year.

GF9 is pretty much staffed by BF at this point. It's nothing but another label for Battlefront.

All of the core GF9 people left to start "Monster Fight club" a while back. Including the guy who started GF9.
