Hello! So a group of my friends is running a BFG campaign. I'm really enjoying the campaign but I just can't seem to win at this game. I'm playing Necrons and I'm currently sitting at 6 losses (including ties) to 1 win. I am fairly new at BFG, I only played once or twice before this campaign. My ships just can't seem to push damage through and go down pretty easily, I've stopped using escorts as they are basically free points for the opponent. I've been playing against imperial navy (Gothic and Bakka). I can't seem to find any guides for how to play Necrons, so if y'all have any tips I would really appreciate it.

Depends, the necron rules for campaigns are pretty punishing. i find escorts are only really good for harassing eldar.
the tomb ships look really cool and are very powerful, but for roughly the same points you can get 2 scythes which are really the core effective ships in a necron fleet. they all have teleporters for boarding, star pulse generators to deal with ordinance and they are fast at 30cm (+ inertia-less drives).
always bring at least 1 shroud to slink around and give your fleet that +1 on command checks.
I forgot, you never said what points level you are playing at.

There is an older tactica pdf floating around from Fanatic magazine, but basically you are super fast and have nifty guns. Zipping behind your enemy's line and bullying everyone around helps, especially against Imperials who aren't the greatest in maneuvering. Utilize portals constantly, dropping guns and setting fires aboard the ships and you should do fine.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. I've only used the cairn once. We generally play around 1000pts though we did a 500pts, and a 750pts game.

Okay, I'll try that but I usually find that getting behind someone takes away my ability to use portals. Thanks for the fanatic magazine tip!

I'd strongly recommend focusing on scythes - I reckon your cruisers are the best ship going in my experience.
The necrons have lots of tricks, but the one which actually wins games is massed locked on particle whip fire - you have superior range to most opponents, a 270' arc of fire and don't care about relative heading. Keep the range open and lance the organic vermin out of existence.
By comparison, close range hurts. You have no protection from enemy teleport strikes, whilst your close range guns are awesome your enemy will have a lot *more* and above all with the victory point rule one boarding action can irrevocably lose you the game.
