Seems pretty legit, except for the super heavy part. Detachments have to stay relatively close by and activate with a single order (move and shoot / double move and assault / sit still and shoot better), and Gorgons and Shadowswords kinda don't want to be at the same place. With so much infantry, it might also be a good idea to invest in some Chimeras for the smaller assault groups to get them in position quicker.

My thinking for the Super Heavies was to have the Shadowsword take a forward position in front of them to clear any obstacles so the gorgons can get close and deposit all the engineers

You're going to be drawing a TON of command cards with this list (well, with any large Guard list, really, since that's kind of the ability that their HQs get) so for your first couple of turns, you'll be able to guarantee that you have the cards you want to have in your hand by drawing most of your deck, and discarding down to 10.
Grenadiers seem pretty solid over Infantry squads for 1PL, particularly if you go for the 2W variant which you have done. Having an 8+sv seems kinda pointless until you realize the most common tactic you're going to face to try and clear out your units is "hit them with a small blast and hope that their D12 save+Ld test will wipe them" - the distinction from a 10+ to an 8+ can be extremely important. I also think the flags are a pretty underrated ability.
A thing I think you really have to keep in mind is that detachments in apoc are 0-2 HQs usually, and you don't need to be an HQ to be the warlord of a detachment, you just need to be a CHARACTER. Death Korps Commissars are often better for your small detachment warlords than Field Officers because their aura ability is more relevant (due to the aforementioned small blast+hope for Ld tactic I mentioned earlier). Unless there are cards you REALLY REALLY want every turn, that are just core to your strategy, I think you're going overboard with officers just to have HQs in your detachments. Automatically Appended Next Post: Another thing to consider is that you've got multiple detachments with 18" range guns paired with lascannon HWTs, and a detachment with a direct-sight unit (hydra) grouped with only indirect-fire units (medusas+heavy quads). Group your detachments assuming they'll all be doing the same thing every turn, located in a similar location. I would put the hydra and lascannon teams together, and the indirect fire units together.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"
"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"
"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"
"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!" |
