First up, I'm adding highlights/detailing to my old Night Goblin army, and (finally) painting a few extras I had lying around. And yes, all the models done so far are technically newer than 6th, but it's my preferred ruleset and what I'm building lists for.

Shaman (speedpainted from scratch for the Drunken Master thread in P&M):

Before and after on infantry:

Archers:

Lahmian VC (Aegean/Siren themed)

Skelebros:

"Bat" Swarms:

Next stages will be to finish the NG archer regiment (and some roight proppa archer trays), get that large mob of NG spearmen lurking behind them up to scratch, and building/painting a second unit of skeleton warriors.

Those skeletons, are looking good. Almost want to take a look at them close up and see if they are what I am ultimately looking for. Mantic and GW is what I was looking at a year or two ago and was frankly dissapointed with Mantic being that they were so small and flimsy.

The WGF skellies are super flimsy and come in annoying amount of components, the Mantic ones are as solid as oaks compared to them. I love the aesthetic so it's worth it for me, but if you didn't like the Mantic ones, you'll hate these. May I recommend the Wargames Atlantic ones? They look quite solid.

Also, just for fun, here's some pics (10am, 12pm, 2pm) that show just how fast skeletons paint up:

I was skeptical about Contrast, but with a drybrush and a bit of fiddling, it gets skeletons done crazy-fast.

Night gobbo archer unit finished:

Honestly, you may well have the same issue with any plastic skeletons, and metal of course means hyper-limited poses regardless of source. Do you have any experience in the past with plastic skeletons that were as solid as you want?

Honestly, the recent GW batch skellies is looking good to me. My only issue is the weapons, and of course the price. Weapons is something that I can work with however, as I can convert to a smaller spear head that fits the rest of my armies, which was the issue that I had with Mantic, but in the opposite direction. Not only were the Mantic spear shafts flimsy(or too bendable) in my estimation, but they were way too small for the rest of my miniatures, which is mostly GW, and soon to be Front Rank, BTD and others with actual staffs that wont like they will break.(This is also the reason why I sold my 6th edition beastmen)

I have to tell you, the GW ones aren't any less flimsy (aside from the pairs of legs with robes), the spears especially bend/break in a mild breeze. I think it's symptomatic of plastic skeletons full stop, unfortunately.

I will admit that I am going off of what I have worked on so far, and GW seem sturdier than what I have from Mantic. On top of that the size is just as much of a consideration as well. I want to have generally the same spear shafts between armies. I know that I wont get an exact match, but we can try to get close.

Are your older ones the "classic" GW ones (that tomb kings were stuck with for way too long)? Fireforge does separate weapon sprues that are a similar level of chunky.

I do like a lot of what Fireforge is coming out with, including their undead. I just looked at both GW and Mantic and you are correct in that they do tend to have the same substance on their spear shafts, and yeah both seem to have the same bendiness, damn it. I may have to go back to the drawing board on my skeleton units.

All kidding aside, thanks for showing this to me.
