Guys, seriously... There are NUMEROUS problem posters in the new and rumours thread... It's getting to the point that I and others are becoming problem posters ourselves whinging about them.

Get a grip on the situation. Whatever your current approach is, and whatever changes you decided to make are not working.

It doesn't actually help that the changes you may have made are kept in the ultra secretive moderators club, and we are unaware of it.

Under the couch

If you're talking about the 9th edition thread, I've just gone through the last 8 pages of the thread (back to the last mod warning to tone things down and get back on topic) and the only issues I saw were your OT response to the mod warning, and a bunch of also OT posts from people debating BCB's approach to rules debates, which I removed.

If there is anything specific that you are seeing in there, please report it so it can be assessed and dealt with as appropriate. Just starting a thread here demanding that the moderators 'get a grip on things' is not particularly helpful.

After the latest locked thread debacle (the 1D4chan one in 40K General), I'm wondering whether anything's actually being done to discourage (to put it mildly) the nasty behaviour of certain posters on this forum. Because as far as I can tell, it's the exact same people popping up in that one claiming rape jokes are fine and good, who were being dismissive of people objecting to homophobia on the board a while ago. Why are these people not suffering any consequences for spreading their horrible, toxic attitudes all over this forum? Because doing nothing but lock the thread just means they do it all over again down the line. No wonder the hobby has such a problem with inclusivity when people are allowed to carry on like this with impunity.

So basically, different opinion to me: BAD, needs punishing. Do you see any flaws with that thinking?

If you seriously think it's more important that people not be made to feel unwelcome/uncomfortable lest it impinge on other posters' "right" to behave as unpleasantly as possible with complete impunity, than I don't think there's a great deal I can say to change your mind. But maybe you should reflect on where your priorities lie, and why.

And who decides what is "unpleasant" or "unwelcome"?

Let's use your own standards. You posting, in any form, makes me feel uncomfortable. Are you going to ban yourself?

Well, in this instance, the moderation team, hence my having asked the question in this section of the forum.

Ah, I see you're taking the same approach to this as everything else and adopting the most absurd interpretation possible, rather than engaging in any sort of good-faith discussion. Cool.

Huh, it's almost like there's a vested interest by a subsection of the community who's politics involves dehumanizing others. First in jest, then if that escapes criticism in seriousness.

And while that dehumanization leads to sporadic and then systematic violence these same people can chest thump about their 'freedom'.

I prefer to buy from miniature manufacturers that *don't* support the overthrow of democracy.

Sorry, you can't pull that trick. It's way overdone.

And as I said the start of the process of dehumanizing others is "just jokes" and that's exactly the excuse we saw trotted out in the 1d4chan thread. It's "just jokes" about rape, race, etc.

Since you're being disingenuous I'm guessing you haven't?

Do you guys use the report button?

Do you fill in the form with details of what you find offensive/problematic on posts?

I ask because in my experience modding other sites threads like this get a lot of people talking about problems they see; but often as not its stuff that has never been reported or is reported but not mentioned and left up to mods to interpret which might have been reported.

Ergo if you're not reporting it mods won't deal with it because they might well not see it. They might just not read the thread or might interpret the conversation differently to you.

I have thank you, it is also not as clear Cut as you Present it is.
Cue f.e. Rosenfeld which is quoted in the article.
As was jefferson.
As was rawls.
Hence why it is a paradox. A specific logical issue .

There is a severe issue cross forum with rudeness I personally feel and people are just blunt and to proud of the idea of riling another person up with a reply than actually debating a topic properly.

The news and rumours and the general forums are awful. I've stopped really posting in them.

There's mass disagreement at time in the Off-Topic section but it is cordial, people treat each other as actual humans, differences are debated.

I still stand to reason that there is a nucleus of vile posters on this forum, that the community would be better off without. My opinion, people will consider me wrong.

Just to be clear, disagreement is fine, arguing a point is fine, being a rude, abrasive obnoxious is not.

On moon miranda.

Hey everyone,

A few points.

First, Dakka does not comment on the moderation of users publicly.

Second, if you have problems with posts or threads, please report them, and if there are continual ongoing issues, please feel free to PM a moderator. We don't catch everything, we're not perfect, and not everything actually breaks the rules, but if we don't see it we can't act on it. We're not all on Dakka 24/7.

Third, yes there are in fact people who decide what is unpleasant or unwelcome, and there absolutely are such things here. Mainly "-isms" (racism, sexism, etc).

It would be helpful if posters would let the mod team make replies to user comments instead of inserting themselves into conversations to stand on soap boxes, that's really not productive, and consider this a warning regarding future behavior

With that, I'm going to close this thread as its gone off the deep end. If people have additional concerns, please PM a Moderator.

IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT.

The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.
