Warpflame strike is their current rule, which means they can't be overwatched, since overwatch isn't really standard anymore warptalons should get a new ability since they come at a high premium in points. Probably like a bonus to their charge or something making it easier to get in after coming on from reserve.

Or it remains as is...?
Think about it. Overwatch is a stratagem and army/unit ability. We know that it still is around at the very least via the Tau previews today.
Having an immunity to something like that is fairly handy.

It's a bit niche now, not the worst thing ever, but since people can only overwatch 1 time anyway not blowing it on the warptalons isn't really a big deal.

From what has been said though, a unit cannot Overwatch if an enemy unit is within Engagement Range of them...so your Warp Talons, if they charge someone? Can shut down further Overwatches from that unit, whether they elect to use it or not.

You could do that before anyway, I have several times used Warp talons to engage 2 or 3 different units so that I can get raptor units and a dual lightning claw lord in without over watch. What they really should have is a rule that allows them to deal mortal wounds to units they charge on the turn they deep-strike and the ability to return to reserves. They literally cut their way in and out of the warp, I fail to see how a superhuman killer coming flying towards you wreathed in the flames of what is effectively hell doesn't cause injuries when he gets into the fray.

T'au get overwatch without the strategems, and Night Lords have a strategem to lock non-vehicles in combat.

I like what they've been doing with exarchs and harlequin characters where you can swap out one special ability for another. I could see the same concept working for a squad of warp talons. So if you really love the overwatch canceller, you can keep it. Otherwise, you can swap it out during list creation for a different power. Power suggestions off the top of my head:
* Once per game, let them go back into deepstrike reserves. Or possibly just let them redeploy anywhere on the table 9" away from the enemy per one of the warp spider rules?
* After they arrive from reserves, all to-hit rolls made against them until their next movement phase suffer a -1 due to all the whacky warp light getting in your eyes.
* On the turn that they arrive from reserves, let summoned demons "follow" them and arrive within 6" of the warp talons and more than 9" away from the enemy (instead of having to be deployed next to the summoner). The warp talons tore a hole through reality, and the summoner is pulling the demons through it rather than popping his own reality zit.
EDIT: Generally speaking, rules like this should probably seek to provide new ways of playing the unit rather than offering it a raw power boost.

ATTENTION. Psychic tests are unfluffy. Your longing for AV is understandable but misguided. Your chapter doesn't need a separate codex. Doctrines should go away. Being a "troop" means nothing. This has been a cranky service announcement. You may now resume your regularly scheduled arguing.

Since they make you pay the full 10 points for the double Lightning Claws they come with I would expect them to go to not only 2w but 2a as well to make them a viable unit. As a Nightlords player I really want them to be viable so I can use them as a 10 man bomb. I've heard rumors that warpflame strike is being replaced with a 5++ so I see myself using them if all goes well with the codex release for 9th.

Each claw adding an attack is a big help. They are already daemonic so I hope they don't get a redundant save.

As long as they turn their special ability into something viable I'll be happy with it.

Agreed. A buff to their charge possibly some impact hits/damage to units around their drop would be good.

That could work make it roll a die for each Warp Talon after a successful charge on a 5+ deal a mortal.
I really like the summoning idea. On the turn they drop you can summon from one of them.

Summoning seems a bit complicated that would imply you have units to summon with them, which isn't common in a list.

That's true. I've been struggling to imagine what CSM faction armywide rules will work for what might be the most thematically diverse subfactions. (Word Bearers worshipping the entire Pantheon, Night Lords mostly rejecting them)
