Time for another "What do I do with these models" question. About 6 weeks ago I started a Thunderwarriors army (counts as Primaris Flesh Tearers). All is well with that army, but as I was digging through the bits mountain I found a box labeled "Project Squats". It was a box full of Mantic Forge Fathers infantry and a tank I got from a Kickstarter campaign. Combine that with the new not-squats coming from Wargames Atlantic and it looks like I have another project on my hands.

I'd like this to count as a 40k army. I know there are other games out there, but it's hard enough finding a 4ok opponent in my area. What do I count them as? Astra Militarum are an okay choice, but seem a bit squishy. Marines seem a little tough. Tau just don't have the Close combat profile. Perhaps Genestealer cult? They do have bikers, and who doesn't like angry dwarf bikers?

Sisters of battle might work. Squishier than marines, tougher than guard etc.

Or space marines could work if you stick to old marine stuff, that way they’re still not as tough as Primaris?

I was thinking perhaps using only scouts.

The vast amount of squats = Guard.
They've gkt flak armor, laguna, & imperial special/heavy weapons.
The squat elder with psychic powers = psyker

Mole mortars = mortars.
With current soup rules you can use the exo-armor as termites.

Where is this from? Very curious. That'd be rad if they brought them back.

I mean, fifty bucks is on the line.
There's no rule that says I can't.

I'd probably use them as Stormtroopers, I always got the impression Squats were basically Guard but just a little bit better, a little bit more armoured, with a little more high-tech guns.

CORRECTION: Squats possess technology that Techpriests have wet dreams about!

No, not at all as far as armor/weapons (in 40k). While some may have had better BS, or better WS, their outstanding standard features were T4 & move 1" or 2" slower than guard (because they were dwarves - in space. And dwarves move slower on stubby legs).
A few models had what you'd reasonably call carapace armor (they are literally wearing breast plates) but the rest are clearly flack.

And like I said, their exo armor could proxy as termie suites.

There weapons were all standard Imperial - because they were an Imperial faction. Lasguns, bolt weapons, special/heavy weapons, the usual close combat weapons. Some autoguns on some models...
They also had bikes & trikes - both having the twin bolt guns on handlebars. Trikes mounted a heavy weapon (usually a Multimelta - i think that was the only trike kit sold). All the squats crewing these were in flak.
Vehicle wise they used rhinos.

The only true unique thing they had 40k wise was an exo-suite bike thing that included a powerlance. Its pretty dumb looking - says a squat fan.
There was also a bike with sidecar for the psychic elder.

It was in EPIC/Space Marine/whatever you want to call it that they got faction specific vehicles & super heavies. Sadly none ever made it into 40k

I know that most stories like this don't pan out realy…. But I want to believe. I started playing right after Squats were squatted I've never really had any desire to have them until about 4 or 5 years ago. Now I think that they game NEEDS them.

Play them as Orks. Enough variability in Unit size, plenty of tech and Vehicles, T4 & S4, slow moving Infantry, MAN’s as Exo Armour.
