Hey ya'll. I haven't played 40k since 5th edition but I'm getting back into the hobby. It seems to have changed quite a bit since then.

I've decided to start my own marine chapter this time around (sort of) and will be building my force as the Emperors Hawks. I've always liked their paint scheme and the lore behind the chapter of frontal assaults utilizing jump pack marines and landspeeders. Some of the last models I painted before leaving the hobby were made to begin this force and these were some of the better models I painted. I like the idea of hitting my opponent hard with a frontal assault that will either lead to their destruction or my forces destruction quickly (after all, this is 40k and anything can happen with the roll of the dice lol). The Emperor's Hawks can also easily be played as a Blood Angels successor chapter as well.

I plan on playing my force similar to the lore and will utilize quite a bit of the following in my force as the mainstay:

Tactical Squads
Assault Squads with Jump Packs
Vanguard Veterans with Jump Packs
Landspeeder Squadrons
Drop Pods

What do you guys think? Also, is it possible to use Assault Squads or Landspeeders in the new codex and rules for accurate precision of drop pods? Do you guys have any recommendations for heavy support options for my force? I was thinking of adding Vindicators to the force and running them as assault guns, similar to the actics of the Stug 3 used in Panzer divisions in WW2.

Any and all feedback is much appreciated and I will definitely keep ya'll updated on my chapters progress.

Hi! Welcome to dakka, and welcome back to the hobby! You are correct that a lot has changed since 5th edition. I'll be honest, I think a lot of the units you listed are on their way out to be replaced by newer primaris equivalents. As for precision drop pod strikes, deepstrikes no longer scatter, but you can't deploy deepstrikers within 9" of an enemy so savvy opponents will find a way to screen against your attack. Not to say that it won't still be effective, just that deepstriking has changed a lot since 5th. That being said, your project sounds like a cool one. A lot of the units that are being replaced have some sort of primaris equivalent slated, so you'll likely still be able to keep the feel you're going for. You should also consider starting a Painting and modelling blog so that you can share you're hobby progress.

Hope that helps
Cheers!

Hi,

Welcome to Dakka
